Semester Reports - Changes to the reporting of the Mathematics curriculum

As previously communicated, our semester reports will be available to families on Wednesday the 2nd of July at 3:30 pm via Compass.

Please note that due to our full implementation of the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 (Victorian Curriculum), your child's report card will look different to previous years.

On your child's previous report, classroom teachers reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.

As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.

Rolling Facilities Evaluation

Our Rolling Facilities Evaluation was completed last week. The Rolling Facilities Evaluation is conducted by the VSBA and involves 5-yearly assessments of the condition of school buildings and other infrastructure such as car parks, footpaths and fencing at all Victorian government schools.

We were able to spend considerable time with the the team from Macutex to highlight and discuss many of the issues that we are experiencing with our buildings, grounds and facilities. Pleasingly, many of these issues were pre-identified by Macutex, particularly those relating to our toilet facilities, stormwater drainage, roof leaks and structural movement of buildings.

We hope to receive the report in approximately 6 weeks which will then allow us to create a maintenance plan for the following 5 years and potential access additional funding and support to rectify any items deemed high priority.

A reminder about Parking, Traffic Management & Active Travel

Please continue to be ultra-cautious and safe around our school at drop-off and pick-up times. Also remember to be courteous and respectful.

We have continued to receive reports from neighbours and members of our school community who report dangerous driving and illegal parking, particularly regarding the 2 minute parking areas.

Please remember, if you want to avoid traffic congestion in the mornings and afternoons, active travel is a great option! Walk with your children, get them to walk with friends, or park a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way to school.

Thank you

Mr Brendan Garvey
