The partial completion of the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care equips secondary students with the knowledge to plan and implement quality care and educational experiences for young children. Studying the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at Holmesglen

 

The partial completion of the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) course that can only be completed as part of a VCE or VCE VM program.

 

Through the combination of face-to-face, online and practical learning, you will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to work effectively as a professional team member in an early childhood service.

 

These skills include gaining an understanding of legal and ethical requirements, engaging with young children and their families, facilitating children's leisure and play, and fostering holistic development and wellbeing.

 

The course will be delivered through a mixture of online activities, classroom delivery and simulated Early Learning Centre environment.

 

The two years' part time study through the VET Delivered to Secondary Students program will give you an opportunity to continue your studies in the Early Childhood Education field.

Entry Requirements

Students are required to be enrolled in Year 11 or Year 12 in a Victorian Secondary School for entry into this program.

 

For work experience a current Working With Children Check card is required for students 18 years of age or older. It is recommended that all students obtain the card. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination may be required by individual centres/businesses.

Classes run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm - Wednesday (one day per week on campus)Placement opportunities will be discussed in class.

Students wishing to obtain the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care will be required to complete additional units and formal placement hours.

 

To receive the full qualification, you must complete 15 core units and 2 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry.

Holmesglen Course Information

Assessment

 

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

 

This program is not a scored study. Students who successfully complete the Unit 3 & 4 sequence will receive one ATAR increment, which is calculated as 10 per cent of the fourth-ranked study score from the student's 'top four' Unit 3 & 4 studies.

 

* Students will be required to undertake some units after the completion of their VCE course if they wish to receive the full Certificate III qualification.
