The Certificate III in Beauty Services is designed to offer secondary school students an opportunity to acquire hands-on skills for a career as a beautician. Learn nail care, waxing, lash and brow treatments, eyelash extensions, and makeup application, preparing you for success in the beauty industry. Gain practical experience and industry knowledge for a fulfilling career path.

Studying the Certificate III in Beauty Services at Holmesglen

 

At Holmesglen, we focus on making sure you have a strong customer-service approach when consulting with clients, so you're ready to walk into a job at your future salon. The Certificate III in Beauty Services SHB30121 is a two-year program delivered one day a week on campus.

 

In the first year, students will complete make-up, spray tanning, e-file for nail services, manicures and pedicures as well as learn how to use salon software, conduct financial transactions, sell retail products and develop customer service skills.

 

First Aid is also completed in the first year.

 

In the second year, students build on their makeup skills and complete makeup for photography, eyelash extensions, waxing, eyelash lifting and tinting, eyebrow shaping and tinting & learn health and hygiene regulations.

 

This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students (previously VETiS ) program and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCE VM program.

Entry Requirements

There are no specified entry requirements. Students are required to be current school students and enrolled in the VETDSS program in either Year 10 or 11 at one of the schools that Holmesglen has an agreement with.

 

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you may be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan and identify any learning support needs.

 

Students are required to have basic computer skills, mainly to prepare Word and Excel documents, turn a computer on and off, use search engines such as Google, type documents, and access the Holmesglen learning management system and research topics relevant to industry information and sources.

Timetable

Students will participate in theoretical and practical classes as follows: 

Year 1 and 2 4 hours per day, one day per week (Wednesday),  1.30pm to 5.30pm.

To receive this qualification, you must complete 18 units, which are comprised of 14 core units and 4 elective units. These elective units have been chosen to assist the students' career aspirations of becoming beauticians and to equip them with the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform a variety of beauty services in the workplace after graduation.

Assessment

This program is not a scored study. Students who successfully complete the Unit 3 & 4 sequence will receive one ATAR increment, which is calculated as 10 per cent of the fourth-ranked study score from the student's 'top four' Unit 3 & 4 studies.

 

Additional resources

A make-up kit must be purchased directly from Holmesglen. The cost for the make-up kit in 2024 was $450 and this may increase in 2025.
