Around the Primary Classes

Connecting Through Culture
This week, we were fortunate to have Scott Darlow, an Aboriginal performer and guest speaker, work with students from Year 1 to Year 6. The students loved hearing about Scott's family story through the artwork on his guitar. He told many stories about his life and his heritage, recounting these stories with passion.
The Year 6 girls were very engaged with Scott's discussions surrounding the Stolen Generation as this was a major focus of the HaSS curriculum earlier in the year.
Playing of the yidaki (digeridoo) and playing on the guitar Goanna's 1982 hit song, Solid Rock (2025 Reconciliation song) were absolute hits with all classes. Overall, Scott provided a wonderful and engaging learning experience for all.
We Swim, We Swam, We have Swum!
Lining up, listening well,
Jumping in, like a pin.
Legs kicking, feet flicking.
Arms stretching, hands propelling,
Bubbles blowing, gliding, flowing
Shower rinsing, hair dripping
Time to go
Oh NO!
What a week of fun and learning for our Primary Students at the pool.
Stop, Drop, and Learn! Fire Safety Comes to School.
This week, all of our Primary classes took part in the Tasmania Fire Service Education Program with Firefighter Drew. He was incredibly engaging and kept all our students captivated as they learned important ways to stay safe around fire. Students enjoyed plenty of hands-on activities and practical takeaways - from checking their smoke alarms at home to making sure everything stays two metres away from the heater.
Students explored how quickly fires can spread and how hot they can become. They also learned about different types of smoke alarms and where they should be placed in the home and discussed the importance of having a clear family escape plan and a meeting place outside.
They also practised life-saving strategies like Stop, Drop and Roll and learned how to safely escape in case of a fire.
It’s been a fun, memorable, and very important week, encouraging students to think critically about how they can help keep themselves, their families and pets safe at home.
thank you, Firefighter Drew, for helping us all become fire-safe!
