Year Eleven Mocktail Party
This week, we hosted a Mocktail Party for our Year Eleven students to celebrate their new roles as school leaders. The event was organised by our Year Eleven Hospitality students as part of Mrs Teresa McAllister’s award-winning Hospitality course. The theme, “Op Shop Hop,” inspired some incredible outfits from both staff and students. Mrs O’Donnell was a standout, leading the crowd in lively group dances.
Year Eleven Barbeque
On Wednesday, our Year Eleven leaders hosted a lunchtime barbeque to bring the Secondary School together for some fun. Music played as students from different year groups mingled and even upper Primary School students joined in for a sausage in a bun. It was fantastic to see the students take full ownership, setting up, cooking and cleaning up the entire event themselves. This initiative sets a positive tone for the year ahead.
Gold coin donations were collected, with all proceeds going toward our fundraising efforts for the Hawaiian Ride for Youth, which will visit us in Term One next year. The Ride for Youth is a cycling event from Albany to Perth that raises awareness and funds for youth mental health and it launches from Great Southern Grammar every year.
Duke of Edinburgh
Last week, I had the honour of accompanying Year Twelve student Tahlee Grinter to Perth for a ceremony at Government House, where we met His Excellency, the Governor of Western Australia. Tahlee received the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, a truly remarkable achievement.
At Great Southern Grammar, students can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme from the age of 14, progressing through Bronze, Silver and ultimately Gold levels. Each level comprises four sections: Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary Service and an Adventurous Journey.
I encourage all students to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award during their time at GSG. For Tahlee to achieve her Gold Award is an outstanding accomplishment that will serve her well in the next phase of life beyond GSG.

GSSSSA Interschool Cricket carnival
Last Thursday, some of our students competed in the GSSSSA Interschool Cricket Carnival. This week, teams from Years Seven and Eight are representing the School in the GSSSSA Basketball Carnival.
Sport is an important part of life at GSG, offering students valuable experiential learning. Through sport, students can try new things, work together, overcome challenges, stay healthy and experience joy!
As a school, we strive to provide a balanced education and sport plays a vital role in that.
We aim to open opportunities that maximise participation while respecting the rhythm of classroom learning and giving athletes the chance to pursue excellence beyond simple participation. Our Sports Department does a wonderful job balancing these often-competing priorities.
On Thursday 30 October Year Seven to Nine students participated in the GSSSSA Cricket carnival at the North Road ovals. It was a warm day with some showers passing through, good energy and lots of fun had; honourable mention to the A-grade boys for going through undefeated claiming 1st and the B-grade boys finishing 2nd and Harrison Woithe raising the bat for an amazing 55 runs in only 6 balls.
In the girls section both teams managed a couple of wins and one or two narrow losses cost them an overall win. It was a very well organised event by Great Southern Regional Manager, Jarrod Hansen and a big thanks to the coaches, teachers and students who helped out.

GSG Athletes Shine at WA All Schools Championships
