From the Deputy Principal

Our vision at Great Southern Grammar is that our graduates make their impact: that they are beacons of light in the world, having a positive, lasting impact in their communities for the common good. It is always a joy to see where our students shine their light in the world and where their adventures take them, whilst they are here at school and beyond GSG.
This past week has been a celebration of the amazing achievements of our students, both present and past. Late last week we headed to Perth with Zane Cairns, a Year Eleven Yalari scholar and our Boarding Captain, to a Yalari function. We were joined by Yalari scholars from all over Western Australia and Zane was recognised with the Yalari Core Values award for Western Australia. Waverley Stanley, the inspirational Founding Director of Yalari spoke to us about the importance of supporting our indigenous scholars to become the beacons of light in their own communities as we work towards reconciliation.
I also had the joy of reconnecting with Abby Richards, our very first Yalari scholar at GSG, who reminded me that, at the time, she was the only indigenous student at GSG. She blazed a trail not only for the Yalari scholars who followed her and for us as a school. You can see some of Abby's amazing work as an artist and a journalist on the ABC project Deep Time here .
And, students' talents continue to shine in other areas, including our Hospitality programme where students have been busy preparing their entries for the Albany Agricultural Show.
And, just to add to the excitement, the Year Eleven Hospitality students also provided amazing mocktails for the Year Eleven Mocktail party. The colours in those beautiful drinks competed strongly with the patterns and textures in the op-shop outfits being rocked on the dance floor!
Enjoy the long weekend with your children and encourage them to shine brightly.
