Prefects

As November approaches, the Prefect body is primed to bring back one of Epping Boys’ most spirited and meaningful traditions: Movember. More than just a fundraiser, Movember is a month dedicated to promoting men’s mental health and strengthening the sense of community that defines our school. This year’s program has been carefully crafted not just to create awareness, but to provide a cadence of activities that invite boys to reflect, to show up for one another, and to make generosity feel normal.
Running across Weeks 4 to 7, the initiative features a full calendar of events aimed at inspiring participation and connection. The beloved Mancakes will return each Friday morning from 8:00 am to 8:40 am, and this year, students can pre-order their mancakes and collect them using a simple token system, ensuring shorter lines and a smoother start to the morning. Available in a range of sizes with classic toppings, the Mancakes are as delicious as they are meaningful, functioning as a warm breakfast that supports an even warmer cause. Proceeds from each sale contribute directly to Movember’s men’s mental health initiatives, turning every bite into a small act of support.
Creativity also has its place in Movember through the Mo Art Competition, where students will create moustache-inspired artworks to raise awareness in unique and meaningful ways. The best entries will be featured on the Prefects’ official Instagram page, with prizes, and of course, Mancakes, all up for grabs for the winners. To keep the momentum going, the Fake Moustache Sale will allow students to show their support in a fun and symbolic way, with all proceeds going toward the Movember Foundation’s mental health programs. Each moustache will come with a small card containing uplifting messages and reminders to look out for one another.
Throughout the campaign, short reflective moments titled Take a MOment will be shared during assemblies and across social media. These will include interviews with staff such as Mr Percy, Mr Gordon, and Ms Sweeney, who will speak about the importance of checking in, being open, and supporting mates through life’s challenges. Adding to the excitement, several teachers will take part in the Mo or Mullet Challenge, growing out their looks to raise funds for the cause. The highlight will be Mr Martin’s Mullet, which will be revealed once the school reaches the $5000 milestone, part of our overall $7000 fundraising goal.
Furthermore, as the festive season approaches, the Prefect body is also proud to launch our annual Christmas Hamper Drive in support of Coast Shelter, an organisation that provides essential services and warm meals to vulnerable and homeless individuals in our community. Each year, these hampers serve as small gestures of hope, reminding us that even simple acts of giving can make the holidays brighter for those who need them.
This Christmas, we will be collecting a range of non-perishable food and festive items to help Coast Shelter create between 250 and 300 hampers for families and individuals in need. All donations will be collected in K9 every Tuesday morning from 8:00 am to 8:40 am, continuing till December 1st. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps bring comfort, nourishment, and joy to those experiencing a difficult Christmas.
Stay tuned for further announcements during assemblies and on our social media page as we continue to celebrate Movember and carry that same spirit of kindness into our Christmas giving.
Our School Captain Riley was MC for the City of Ryde Remembrance Day ceremony at Memorial Park, Meadowbank. He was assisted by Leo with the laying of a wreath in remembrance of all Australian soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. It was honour for these students to be involved in this sombre occasion.
Four of our Prefect body, Liam, Jing Wen, Aditya and Ayaz also attended the Kokoda Day Commemoration ceremony at the Kokoda Track Memorial at Rhodes. Students lay a wreath in memory of all Australian servicemen who lost their lives during the Kokoda campaign in 1942. On display was also the actual flag raised by Australian soldiers after the capture of the village of Kokoda on the 3rd of November, 1942. The Prefects were honoured to participate in the service.
