Instrumental Concert – What I Learnt Yesterday!

Yesterday, we had the joy of experiencing our annual Instrumental Concert at St. Francis of the Fields. It was an absolute delight to watch our talented Foundation to Year 6 students perform in front of their families and peers. Each year, our staff are once again amazed by the skill, dedication, and resilience shown by our instrumental students.

Every concert teaches me something new. One of our school’s key goals is to nurture the whole child — and last night was a beautiful reminder of how music supports this vision. It was evident that our students have invested many hours practising: reading music, remembering patterns, and coordinating timing — all of which help strengthen both short- and long-term memory. For some, simply mastering a piece or performing in front of an audience was a huge personal achievement, and the pride on their faces when they finished their performance said it all.

To conclude the evening, our Year 5 and 6 rock bands took to the stage (see photos attached). Watching them perform reminded me that playing in a band is not just about music — it’s about teamwork, cooperation, and listening to one another. I could clearly see the sense of belonging and connection that came from performing together.

The long-term benefits of playing an instrument, singing, and performing are lifelong: creativity, discipline, confidence, and emotional intelligence.

Congratulations to all our students who showed such courage and bravery by performing in front of their families and friends. You inspired us all with your creativity, resilience, and joy for learning.
