Level 2: Connect

Hats must be worn during all breaks. Please ensure your child has their SEPS broad-brimmed hat at school each day, as part of our SunSmart policy.

Literacy

Week 5: With the shorter week, students revisited several sounds they have previously learnt. We also explored contractions—when two words are combined to form a shortened word (e.g., can notcan’t).

Week 6: Students learnt about the spelling pattern ‘tu’, which makes the /choo/ sound, found in words such as actual and eventually. They also deepened their understanding of verb tense, noticing how verbs change when writing in the present or past tense.

Looking Ahead

Week 7:Students will be learning about connectives and when to correctly add -s/-es to the end of words.

Week 8:Students will review suffixes and explore rules for doubling the final letter when adding endings.

Writing – Persuasive Texts

Over the next few weeks, students will continue learning how to write persuasive texts. They will focus on developing strong reasons to support their opinions, using three key areas to guide their thinking: Health: how something helps our bodies or minds; Fun: how it makes life more enjoyable; and Impact on others/self – how it helps those around us or makes us feel proud and helpful.

Students will also learn to follow the correct structure of a persuasive text, including a clear introduction, well-organised arguments, and a strong conclusion. To make their writing more meaningful, they will link this learning to our new Inquiry unit, which explores the importance of preserving and caring for our environment

Reading – Exploring Characters

During reading sessions, students will be exploring the characters within their stories and learning to understand their personalities, motivations, and roles. They will look closely at what characters say, think, and do to discover more about who they are and why they make certain choices. This helps students develop deeper comprehension skills and encourages them to think beyond the surface of the text.

Students will also discuss how characters change throughout a story and the important roles they play in moving the plot forward. By connecting with characters, students learn to empathise with others and recognise different perspectives. These discussions help build critical thinking skills and strengthen their ability to explain and justify their ideas when talking about what they read.

Maths

In Math we have recently been focusing on sequencing numbers and looking at patterns. In particular our focus has been to understand the rule which dictates each sequence/pattern.

For example: 2, 4, 6, 8, ...... (The rule is we are counting by 2's).

This week we will be investigating symmetry. How to create symmetrical drawings and identify symmetrical shapes and their line of symmetry.

Inquiry

Caring for Our Environment

For the remainder of this term, students will begin a new inquiry topic focused on conservation and caring for our environment. They will explore ways we can look after the planet, including reducing waste, recycling, and protecting natural habitats. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students will develop an understanding of how their actions can make a positive difference to the world around them.
