What makes a St. Joseph's student special? It's their heart for Christian outreach and their commitment to being People of Mission! ❤️

On Tuesday, that mission took us all the way to Zambia! To support families who rely on maize (corn) for food and income, our incredible students got creative. They made a soccer ball from soft plastics, wore their craziest socks, donated their gold coins, and had a ton of fun living out our faith in action. $486.60 was raised on our Crazy Sock Day for SockTober.

Well done St Joseph’s students and families!

The Colours of Joseph’s Faith

Curtis V

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, BULLI

YEAR SIX

My artwork is inspired by the scripture passage ‘The birth of Christ’ (Matthew 1:18-25). I also drew inspiration from something my Mum once told me, “Even in hard times, always choose the colourful option”.

Joseph was in a time of stress, confusion and struggle, stuck on the shame of raising a child that isn’t his own. I have included 2 versions of Joseph either side of Mary. One coloured and one black and white, representing my consciousness. The coloured Joseph represents his faith in God and his trust in Mary. He chose to help Mary through the difficulties of raising the one destined to be King. The black and white Joseph shows his insecurities of wanting to dismiss Mary quietly. Even though Joseph didn't know the right decision, he stayed strong in order to become the Joseph we look up to today.

I used watercolour paint, lead pencil and soft pastels. Using black and white for Joseph represents the hidden emotions that Joseph carried. On the other hand, the coloured Joseph is filled with life and hope because even though Jesus wasn’t his real son, he still lived by God’s word and brought colour to his life.

Joseph’s Gaze

Cristiano H

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, BULLI

YEAR FIVE

The inspiration for my artwork was the scripture passage ‘The birth of Christ’ (Matthew 1:18-25). My artwork consists of mixed media with the use of gouache paint to show opaqueness and watercolour pencils blended on Fabriano paper to show depth and texture within the piece. I chose to use an eye as the main focus for my artwork to depict Joseph, who represents us, looking into the heart and mind of Mary as “the eye is a window to the soul.”

In my piece Mary is the centre of attention as she is Joseph’s whole world and his devoted love for her is clear. The shades of blue throughout my artwork depicts the loyalty and calmness of Mary, whilst it shows craftsmanship and peace for Joseph. At the time of Jesus’ birth, stars filled the sky just like the stars and constellations within my artwork. The corners remain dark whilst the middle is bright and lit up because Jesus is the light in our world. This links back to my own life because my parents would have looked down at me like Mary and Joseph did with their newborn son, a truly special moment for them both.

We congratulate our Year 2 students who, today received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time! This was a beautiful and significant milestone. Our students approached the sacrament with sincerity and reverence, demonstrating a real understanding of God's mercy and forgiveness.

A huge thank you to Fr. Patrick and Fr. Anthony for their kindness and dedicated guidance in celebrating this sacrament with our young people. A big shout out to our teachers, Mrs Greenwood, Mrs Clark and Mrs Page for preparing the students so well for this sacrament!
