Prep

The Preps have had a wonderful Term 2 and are now well and truly settled into school life! It has been fantastic to see the confidence, independence, and enthusiasm they bring to their learning each day.

In Reading, students have been wrapping up our Level 2 unit. During this unit, we revised the letters and sounds m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, and r, while also learning lots of new sight words. Over the school holidays, we encourage students to continue reading the online texts and to practise identifying sight words in books you have at home.

In Writing, students have thoroughly enjoyed our unit on creating mini narratives. Together, we have created a couple of class texts, which have been a wonderful way to explore storytelling and build our writing skills. Next term, we will begin an exciting new unit focused on fairy tales!

In Mathematics, students have completed their unit on 2D shapes. This was an engaging and hands-on unit, with students exploring shapes through a variety of fun learning experiences and activities.

The teachers have also been busy preparing new investigation spaces for next term, all with a strong fairytale theme. Students will be able to explore a puppet theatre, a castle dramatic play area, a gingerbread house, a castle construction space, a fairytale writing station, a bridge building challenge for The Three Billy Goats Gruff, a gingerbread man design station, and fairytale felt boards (just to name a few!).

A reminder that our swimming program will take place during the first week of Term 3, so please check Compass for further information and important details.

We hope all of our families have a safe, warm, and happy holiday break. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning!

Kind regards,

The Prep Team

Laina Brebner, Kayla Hartrick and Emma Wright

Grade 1

The Level 1 students have had a really successful term and are well and truly looking forward to a restful holiday break.

We have enjoyed learning about subtraction and using strategies like counting back, crossing out and 'thinking addition'.

In Writing we have been loving writing a variety of different poems including a colour poem, a haiku, rhyming couplets and a shape poem.

In Reading we have enjoyed revisiting the Level 5 sounds and locking them into our long term memory. We encourage all families to continue to read over the holidays.

Some of our highlights for this past fortnight have including meeting with our buddies to create portraits of each other; celebrating our connect groups with the termly showcase yesterday; and performing to the Gruffalo with our sound story instruments.

We would like to thank all of our reading volunteers for this term and remind families that the first week back is the school swimming program - so don't forget your bathers, towel, thongs and swimming bag!

Happy holidays, see you in Term 3!

Grade 2

What a great Term 2 in Grade 2!

Students have enjoyed beginning our Writing Unit focusing on narratives. Students have designed a protagonist and an antagonist ready to be used in a story next term. Students have also begun using sizzling starts to engage their reader.

In Reading, students have been making inferences about a variety of texts. Students have used the clues in the text and their prior knowledge to make inferences about character traits, emotions and actions. We have also explored how characters can change over time.

In Maths, we have wrapped up our unit on Subtraction. Students have learnt a variety of strategies to apply to subtraction problems. This has included using backwards doubles, backwards tens facts, count backwards and using fact families.

In Inquiry, the Grade 2’s presented their incredible research projects. Over the past few weeks, students have selected one product and have tracked how it gets from the farm to our tables. All of our Grade 2’s worked so hard and did such a wonderful job! We are so proud of their efforts! Here is some of their amazing work!

We are looking forward to Term 3! Please check Compass for details about Swimming Week in Week 1 and the Quantum Excursion in Week 2.

We hope that you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy your well-deserved break!

Kind regards,

The Grade 2 Team

Grade 3 & 4

Wow! What a busy term it has been! The 3/4s have had so many fun experiences this term, with the highlights being our recent camp and excursion to Quantum. Camp was a great experience for all involved. We are so proud of all the students for the way they tried new things, challenged themselves and treated each other with kindness.

In Literacy, we have concluded our unit on ‘Strangers On Country.’ It has been wonderful to hear and read the students text responses, showing just how much they have learned about First Nation Peoples and European settlers in the 1800s.

In Maths, we have finished the term learning about time. We have had a particular focus on telling the time to the minute and converting time from analogue to digital. It would be great if you found some opportunities over the holidays to continue this learning in a real life setting!

Just a reminder that Term 3 starts with our school Swimming Program. Please check Compass for more details.

Enjoy the holidays!

Kind regards,

The 3/4 Team

Damien Smith, Daena Hailey, Brent Smith, Claire Cripps and Nick Pagliaro

Grades 5 & 6

It has been a busy and exciting end to Term 2 in Level 5/6!

In Literacy, students finished our novel study of Blueback. We watched the film adaptation and compared it to the book using a Venn diagram.

In Mathematics, students explored time, including reading timetables, converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time, and solving elapsed time problems.

On Wednesday, students participated in the Connect Group Showcase and enjoyed viewing the wonderful learning and projects from students across the school.

On Thursday, we held our Inquiry Expo, where students proudly presented their research projects on an Asian country of their choice to their peers in the 5/6 cohort.

We wish all our students and families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable two-week Winter School Holidays. We look forward to welcoming everyone back at the beginning of Term 3!
