Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding
It’s been another big and really positive week here in the boarding community, with plenty going on both at school and beyond.
It was fantastic to see so many of you at the Champagnat Trust Sports Lunch last Friday. With more than 1,300 people in the room at The Star, it was certainly a lively and enjoyable afternoon. The guest lineup didn’t disappoint, and it was great to catch up with a number of boarding parents and Old Boys. Events like this really highlight the strength of our community, and it’s particularly meaningful knowing the funds raised support scholarships for boys who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to attend the College. Thanks to everyone who was able to be there and support such a worthwhile cause.
On Saturday, we held our annual Boarding Families Function following a great day of sport. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there myself, but I’ve heard it was a terrific afternoon with a wonderful turnout and a great atmosphere—helped, no doubt, by our 1st XV Rugby team’s strong win on McMahon Oval! The 1st XI Football team also capped off an excellent season with another win, and it’s a huge congratulations to both teams for finishing the season as Premiers—an outstanding achievement.
The Boarding Families Function is always a highlight on the boarding calendar. It’s a great chance for parents to connect, put faces to names, and build those important relationships within the community. I’m really grateful to those of you who made the effort to travel in for it. We’re already looking forward to building on its success next year. A big thank you as well to Mr Ty Casey for attending this function on my behalf, and to Mrs Meagan Loane for her assistance in helping the event to run so smoothly on the day.
The boys also had a full weekend of activities. A large group headed to Suncorp Stadium on Friday night to watch the Dolphins take on the Roosters, which was a great outing—especially with such a convincing win by the Dolphins. On Sunday, all of our boarders went across to Stuartholme to support the annual Day for Dolly netball match between the Year 12 boarders from both schools. While the result didn’t go our way, it was a fantastic event played in a great spirit, and we’re very appreciative of the warm hospitality shown by the Stuartholme community.
As we head into the final days of term, the boys are just about through their exams, with only a few left to go. There’s still plenty ahead this week, including the Inter-House Athletics Carnival on Friday, which is always a great day. Many of the boys will also be involved in rugby league, basketball, and tennis trials over the weekend as preparations begin for Term 3.
We’re encouraging all the boys to finish strongly over these last few days and then enjoy a well-earned break over the holidays.
Thanks, as always, for your ongoing support. It makes a real difference to the boys and to the strength of our boarding community.
