Principal's Page

Dear Parents and Friends,
I would like to sincerely thank our school community for your contribution toward my Principal Appraisal. Whether you completed the survey or participated in an interview with the panel, I am very grateful for your time, honesty and support. This process takes place every three to four years and, while it is somewhat daunting, I value the opportunity it provides for my reflection and honest feedback.
Each person in our school community is important to me and the insights gained through this process will help me continue to grow as a leader and ensure I am doing my best to support our students, families and staff.
Staffing News
On Friday, we farewelled 5J teacher, Mrs Chloe Tighe, as she prepares for the birth of her second child. Chloe is an exemplary teacher who has been committed to developing the faith, learning and wellbeing of students in 5J and we are very grateful for her service to our community.
We welcome Miss Danielle Muse as 5J teacher for the remainder of the year. Danielle has worked at St Joseph's all year in the capacity of Indentured Casual and is excited to be taking on this new role.
In Term 3, we welcome Mrs Lena Haritos back from maternity leave in the Indentured Casual role each Thursday and Friday.
This Week’s Gospel - A Message for Our School Community
This week’s Gospel from Matthew (10:29-31) is a quiet but powerful reminder that nothing in our lives is overlooked by God. Jesus points to the sparrow, small, ordinary, easily missed, and reminds us that even it is known and cared for. Then he brings the message closer, “you are worth more than many sparrows.” In the middle of busy family life, this is grounding and reassuring. You are seen, your children are seen, and nothing about your daily life is insignificant.
For families, this speaks into the ordinary rhythm of the week ahead. The early morning rush, school drop offs, work demands, meals, sport training, homework, and tired evenings are not background moments. They are where relationships are formed, values are lived, and love is expressed in practical ways. God is present in all of it, not only in the big milestones but in the small repeated moments that make up family life.
It is easy to miss the good that is already happening when life is full. This Gospel gently shifts our attention to notice it, the patience shown, the effort made, the small acts of care that often go unnoticed. A kind word, a calm response, a moment of listening, these shape the heart of family life more than we sometimes realise.
As we move through this week, may we grow in awareness that every member of our family is known and valued by God. And may that shape how we see and speak to one another so that even in the ordinary moments our homes become places where people feel seen, supported, and loved. May this week be lived with open eyes and open hearts, where nothing and no one goes unnoticed. (Liturgy Ritual Prayer)

Progress Update
Progress Update:
Throughout Semester One, the focus on developing strong and consistent pedagogical practices, particularly in the area of Writing, along with the design of learning sequences and units of work, was the priority during Collaborative Planning sessions. During Semester Two, this focus will be extended to include Teacher Observation and Feedback cycles. In readiness for this, over the past fortnight, teachers have been involved in professional learning centred around the evidenced-based 5P Framework.

Plan
Our Instructional Coaches will work alongside teachers using this Framework to support teacher reflection and provide feedback.
Collaborative Planning and Co-Teaching Cycles have continued over the past fortnight. These sessions have included evaluating the extent to which students have achieved their Personal Writing Goals and discerning their next goal using students’ latest writing samples.
Learning Walk - This morning, members of the leadership team conducted a Learning Walk to evaluate the impact of Personal Learning Goals across the school. It was clear that students knew their goal and what steps they needed to take to reach their goal. The students commented that the goals motivated them to improve their writing.
Recent Staff Professional Learning
Research tells us that the quality of the teacher is the greatest in-school influence on student achievement. Therefore high quality professional learning for teachers must be a priority to ensure improved teacher practice that leads to improved student learning growth.
