Berwick College Basketball Academy Tournament Update

It has been a busy and successful few weeks for the Berwick College Basketball Academy, with our students representing the College across the Champions Cup and SSV competitions.

Champions Cup

Our teams have produced some excellent results throughout the Champions Cup Qualifiers, with teams across our Junior, Intermediate and Senior age groups progressing through the competition. Following the qualifying rounds, our Junior Girls Blue, Junior Boys Blue, Intermediate Boys, Senior Girls and Senior Boys have all secured their places in the Champions Cup Elite 8. We now look forward to a big week ahead, with all five teams competing in the Elite 8 next week and looking to continue their strong performances.

Year 7 School Sport Victoria (SSV) Division Tournament

Our entire Year 7 cohort travelled to Pakenham Stadium for the SSV Division Tournament, with all teams competing extremely well throughout the day. It was particularly pleasing to see students implementing the offences and concepts they have been learning throughout the year in Basketball Academy classes. Congratulations to our Year 7 Girls 1 and Boys 1 teams, who both progressed through to the next round.

Our Year 9 Basketball Academy students also played an important role on the day, taking responsibility for refereeing and scoring games. This provided a great opportunity to put the knowledge and skills from their theory unit at school into practice in a competitive tournament environment.

Year 8 SSV Division Tournament

Our Year 8 cohort followed with another successful day at Pakenham Stadium for their SSV Division Tournament. Congratulations to our Year 8 Girls 1 and Boys 1 teams, who both progressed through to the SSV Region Finals later this term. A big thank you also goes to our Year 10 Basketball Academy students who refereed and scored throughout the tournament and represented the College extremely well in their officiating roles. Congratulations to all of our student athletes who have competed and represented Berwick College over the past few weeks. We now turn our attention to next week’s Champions Cup Elite 8 and the upcoming SSV Regional Finals.

Courtside Hoop City Experience

A select group of our Year 7 and Year 9 Basketball Academy students also recently had the opportunity to visit Courtside Hoop City in Port Melbourne. Students experienced everything the venue has to offer, including the retail outlets and shooting bays, while some of our students also had the opportunity to compete in games against a touring group from Hong Kong.

A big thank you to Jordan Lawley and Chris Moore from Courtside for organising and hosting our students. It was a fantastic experience for the group and we look forward to getting back there again.
