Junior Girls AFL Regional Tournament Reflection

Our Year 7/8 Junior Girls AFL team, pictured above, represented Berwick College with determination and resilience at the Regional AFL Tournament this week. The girls faced strong opposition throughout the day, taking on Cranbourne West Secondary College, McKinnon Secondary College and Wulerrp Secondary College. Despite going down to Cranbourne West and McKinnon, the team finished the day with a hard-fought draw against Wulerrp. The weather certainly tested everyone, with persistent wind and rain making conditions extremely challenging. However, the girls never gave up, showing great teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship in every match. They should be incredibly proud of the effort and determination they displayed throughout the day. A special thank you goes to the parents and families who came along to support the team. We would especially like to acknowledge one parent who generously brought oranges, lollies and hand warmers for the girls, helping keep spirits high despite the cold conditions. It is this incredible sense of community and support that makes Berwick College sporting events so special. Well done to all of the girls for proudly representing Berwick College.

Senior Boys Soccer

On the 30 July the Senior Soccer Boys team contested in the second round at Kingston Heath Reserve. The team had some injuries from our first round and welcomed new additions to the team in Daniel Bouchard, Sasha Sambrotta and Menaka Wijesingha Arachchige. The first game was against Alkira, a tough opponent. The boys fought hard but went down, putting a lot of pressure on the next two games.

The next game against Dandenong HS had some good ball movement, saw some good opportunities on goal, however we walked away with a draw, meaning we were mathematically still a chance to advance, but very unlikely.

The last game allowed for some position and roster changes against Kambrya, where we allowed an early lead, however managed to bounce back for a draw.

A big congratulations to all students across both rounds including, Lachie Bramley, Santi Cornejo, Dylan Davis, Aaron Edmonds, Nima Fayazi, Andre Geerdharry, Carlos Gomez, Lucas Guedes Reis Silva, Muaaz Khan, Zach Kouris, Riley Ludlow, Beau Miller, Callum Prosser, Aj Stojilovic, Alek Tomic and Taha Zahid.

A big thank you to Ms Sommers for driving the bus for the team as well as Mr Nugent for his managerial skills.

Inter Boys AFL

The Berwick College Intermediate Boys AFL team was eager to play after a few months of rest. Sadly, due to some off-season injuries, we were stripped down to a team of 17 and had to play one down for the day. Despite the obvious disadvantage, our boys were not discouraged and rallied for their first match against Alkira Secondary College. Berwick defeated Alkira handily, with players comfortably moving out of position to take advantage. After a short break, Berwick College took on their second opponent of the day in Keysborough and although the boys were warier of this team, they worked them out quickly and managed to keep them scoreless. Josh Stockx is worthy of a mention for his heroic four goal first half before he was shuffled to the backline.

Finally, Berwick College had to take on Koo Wee Rup Secondary College (KSC), with the chance at a final on the line against Beaumaris. Berwick started strong, getting out to an early 4-goal lead against KSC and finishing the first half 22 points ahead. In the second half, KSC responded fiercely, and managed to level the scores before Berwick got a look in. The game was fought down to the wire, and unfortunately our boys came off second-best by a gutting 1-point margin.

The boys were understandably disappointed but are to be commended for once again representing the College with pride. They were well-mannered and displayed fantastic sportsmanship. Again, special thanks to Travis Tuck for supporting and coaching.

Intermediate Boys Netball

Congratulations to our Intermediate Boys Netball team, who had an outstanding day at their recent tournament. The boys performed exceptionally well throughout the pool matches, winning their pool and earning their place in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final was a closely contested match, with the scores level at half-time. The boys showed great determination, teamwork and composure in the second half to pull away and secure an impressive five-point victory.

This fantastic result means the team will now represent our school at the State SSV Netball on the 31 August. A huge congratulations to all the players for their hard work and commitment, and we wish them the very best of luck at State!

Senior Boys Netball

It was a dark and gloomy morning as the Senior Boys Netball team headed off to compete in the Southern Metropolitan Regional Championship day. The pressure was on to see if they could make the State final for a second year running??

In the Pool rounds, Berwick defeated Alkira, Keysborough C Banksia and Koo Wee Rup. The boys won all their matches comfortably, displaying good skills, some strategy and great sportsmanship. This placed us first in the Pool.

Next step was playing Bentleigh in the crossover grand final. Bentleigh challenged us throughout the match, but then some coaching moves happened and we ran out victors 15-10. State is now on the horizon ... what can we achieve then?

Intermediate Girls AFL

The Intermediate Girls played four terrific games on the 3 August at Le Page for the Southern Regionals competition. The girls completed the first three games against Cranbourne West, Minaret and Koo Wee Rup with over a 30 points victory which transferred them into the grand final against Elisabeth Murdoch College.

Even with the weather conditions turning for the worst, the girls were trying their best and worked together as a team. In the end, the girls were able to walk away with Runners Up in the competition.

Year 8 Girls Netball

Well done to both our A and B Year 8 Girls Netball teams for their efforts at Regional Netball. With only a small number of substitutes, the girls gave their best in every game and showed great resilience throughout the day.

They maintained a positive attitude, supported one another on and off the court, and most importantly, had lots of fun.

Senior Girls AFL

The Senior Girls AFL team represented Berwick College with tremendous pride at the Senior Girls AFL Day.

The girls produced an outstanding performance throughout the pool matches, defeating SEDA Dandenong, Kambrya and Alkira to finish the pool stage undefeated and secure their place in the Grand Final.

Despite the cold winter conditions, the team showed incredible passion, energy and determination throughout the day. Every player contributed on the field, supporting one another and competing with a fantastic team spirit.

The girls unfortunately fell just short in the Grand Final, going down to Frankston by just one point in a thrilling finish. While the result was disappointing, the effort and commitment shown throughout the day was something to be extremely proud of. Congratulations to all the girls on an outstanding day. Their competitiveness, teamwork and positive attitude were a fantastic representation of Berwick College.

Year 7 Boys AFL

On the 11 August, the Year 7 boys travelled to Bunguyan Reserve in Tyabb to play in the Southern Metropolitan regionals AFL competition.

The schools the boys competed against were Cranbourne West, Albert Park and Koo Wee Rup.

While the boys were unable to advance to the next round, they had great teamwork and enjoy the day. Well done boys

Intermediate Girls Netball

Well done to our Inter Girls Netball B team for their efforts at the Regional Inter Girls Netball. Winning two of their three games against Keysborough and Narre Warren South, the girls were competitive but held a positive attitude throughout the day.

Year 7 Girls Netball

A big congratulations to our Year 7 Girls Netball teams, with both our A and B teams competing with great effort throughout the day. While the girls unfortunately did not come away with the wins they were hoping for, they should be extremely proud of their efforts and determination across every game.

Both teams demonstrated fantastic enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship, giving their best throughout the tournament and showing great respect towards their teammates, opponents and officials. They represented our school with pride and should be commended for their positive attitude and commitment throughout the day.

Year 8 Boys Netball

Well done to the Year 8 Boys Netball team for representing Berwick College with pride at SMR. Unfortunately, the boys lost their first game which prohibited them from moving through to the next round.

They did, however, find their rhythm winning the next two games with ease. The boys are improving with each round of netball that we play and are showing Berwick community spirit with their manners and sportsmanship.

I have no doubt that they will find success next year at SMR.

Year 8 Boys Badminton

On Thursday 13 August I had the pleasure of taking the Year 8 Boys Badminton Team to the Regional Competition to try and make our way to the State Championships. Unfortunately, we did not win enough games to make the finals, but I am proud of the effort and sportsmanship shown by the team. Thank you to Arjun B, Harry D, Hunter F, Harshaan G, Jordan K, Athvithan N and Reshan T for your achievements.
