3/4 B

Week 1 Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4!

This term promises to be once again full of great learning opportunities and experiences.

In Maths our topics will include: fractions and decimals, chance (probability), location and angles, multiplication and division and mass and capacity.

In Inquiry our unit is called Our Island Home.

The Rationale behind this unit is: We can use knowledge about how places, people and environments are connected to navigate our world.

We will investigate changes caused by adding and removing heat, climate zones and natural vegetation, conditions in different places on earth and using and making maps.

The assessment for this unit will involve students working in groups to plan a new island nation. They will consider climate as they select a location on Earth, and record the average temperatures and rainfall of a nearby city. The students will consider the use of symbols as they draw a map of their island. They will also design a flag and a coat of arms, and write a national anthem for their nation. They will present their project to others in the class.

Our Respectful Relationships unit for term 4 is Problem Solving. The aims of this unit are:

• describe characteristics of cooperative behaviour and identify evidence of these in group activities

• contribute to and predict the consequences of group decisions in a range of situations

• identify a range of conflict resolution strategies to negotiate positive outcomes to problems

• discuss the concept of leadership and identify situations where it is appropriate to adopt this role

• describe and apply strategies that can be used in situations that make them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
