Teaching and Learning

Mrs Kylie Middlemiss - Assistant Principal

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Term 4 – in what promises to be a very exciting term! I hope this finds you well and that you were able to enjoy the change of pace over the school holiday period. I enjoyed lots of family time and welcomed in a very special little cavoodle called Pepper. She is keeping us on our toes but providing lots of cuddles and laughs!

BioEYES Incursion

Here at Karoo we are always looking for ways to enhance the teaching and learning program for our students and this term already we have been fortunate enough to have the BioEYES program visit our school to work with some high achievers in the Science area. BioEYES Australia is run by Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (Monash BDI) and the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) at Monash University and involves scientists who are also trained as

teachers come and work with students.

The BioEYES program aims to:

  • Excite children about science and scientific discovery
  • Engage children in science with authentic, hands-on activities
  • Inspire children to investigate the mysteries of life
  • Breakdown stereotypes about science and scientists

The feedback from the students has been incredibly positive, and we are looking forward to exploring how else we can incorporate more opportunities like these for our students!

Maths Talent Quest Expo

The school was abuzz on Wednesday evening when students who participated in the Maths Talent Quest held an exhibition to present the impressive investigations they had worked on earlier this year. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to share with families and friends the work that our students have been doing, and to see the students sharing with the community how they had gone about their investigations and what they had discovered. Head to our Facebook page for many more photos from the evening!

A huge congratulations to all our students and thank you to the families for making the effort to come and celebrate what they have achieved. Thank you also to Ms Goss for all the work she has put in behind the scenes as our High Ability Students leader.

We cannot wait to see what the students come up with next year.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope to see many of you at Bogan Bingo on Saturday night!
