Victorian Law Moot Grand Final Victory

Please join us in congratulating Mazenod Old Collegians Sam Warner and Jordan Bassilious for winning the Herbert Smith Freehills First Year Law Grand Final Mooting Competition held at the Federal Court of Australia recently. The judging panel was unanimous in their decision and highly praised our former students’ oratory prowess.

Jordan and Sam were clear that the expert coaching they received at Mazenod under the tutelage of Ms Joanne Caird and our team of debating coaches was foundational to their success. We wish Jordan and Sam every blessing as they continue to leave nothing undared in the pursuit of their goals.

Building Bridges 2023

Over the course of term two and three a group of years 10-12 students have been involved in the Building Bridges program, an inter-faith dialogue group, along with students from Mt. Hira College, Killester College, Kilbreda College, King David School and Nazareth College.

One of our year 10 participants, Joshua Weyermayr, has kindly shared his experience below:

“I thought the Building Bridges program was a really great experience. It was an insightful view into other religions and their traditions. Getting to talk to other students just like ourselves from other religions in an open and safe environment was very eye opening. It was intriguing to learn about the views and beliefs of other religions. The Building Bridges program was also an opportunity to further develop my own faith and hear from other Catholics about their own personal journeys with their faith. Participating in this program also allowed me to form new friendships, as well as further strengthening my previous ones. I would overall recommend this program, and really enjoyed participating.”

In addition to the evening sessions at the various schools, students participated in a Community Day this week. Facilitated by representatives from the Bunurong Community, students had a guided tour of the local ecosystem and the Indigenous uses for various plants, created traditional art work and had the chance to continue the conversations with their peers.

A HUGE thank you to all the students and staff that got involved in this excellent program and we look forward to continuing our involvement in the years to come.

Ecology and Sustainability Team – Indigenous Immersion

A group from our student-led Ecology and Sustainability Team this week travelled to Shoreham Foreshore Reserve to take part in an Indigenous Immersion.

There, they were taught about the different uses of plants in the area and given the opportunity to take part in the restoration of native plant life and were welcomed to country as part of a traditional smoking ceremony. Students were provided with some excellent ideas of how to bring this knowledge back to the college and we look forward to the projects they plan in the future!

Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2023

Our final Social Justice project for the year is commencing at the start of term 4 and will run through till the end of term and as always, your support would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is an extremely busy final few weeks for everyone, so we really appreciate the support of all our community, in seeking donations for this initiative.

We are collecting donations of non-perishable food and/or cash to go to those most in need in our local community. The donations to Vinnies will be distributed through the local Parishes. Donations of food items and cash donations are appreciated and used to assist the generous commitment of St Vincent de Paul conferences in offering ‘a hand up’ to people in need at Christmas time.

Each homeroom will be encouraged to bring something different - see the image below. Students can drop off donations during homeroom, to their Year Level Coordinator or directly to the RE Centre in the Heritage corridor.
