Our Catholic Identity

Feast of St Francis of Assisi

St Francis of Assisi is the Patron Saint of animals and ecology. As a Catholic school community, a part of the Diocese of Wollongong, Bishop Brian encourages all of us to engage in Pope Francis’ Encyclical ‘Laudato Si’ and reflect on the everyday actions we take to move towards ecological conversation. Read more about what Bishop Brian wrote here.

On Wednesday, we all gathered together in the church to celebrate the Feast of St Francis of Assisi. During this Liturgy, we recognised those students in our school who demonstrate qualities that align with those of St Francis. Each student received a certificate and a succulent plant, which had been put together by members of our School and Parish Community. This plant serves as a powerful reminder of our faith and our connection with St Francis of Assisi.

Just as St Francis found solace in the natural world, we can look to the succulent as a physical representation of our faith. Its hardiness and ability to thrive in various conditions remind us of the resilience and strength we find through our relationship with God. Even in challenging times, we can draw strength from our faith and the teachings of St Francis, knowing that we are not alone. The succulent's ability to multiply and propagate easily, teaches us a lesson in spreading the news of the Gospel and how quickly positivity can spread throughout the world. By embracing these teachings and incorporating them into our daily lives, we can find spiritual fulfillment and a deeper connection with Jesus Christ.

We acknowledge and thank Cyril who presented these awards. Cyril regularly volunteers his time around the school to maintain the gardens and veggie patch. Congratulations to the following students:

October- Month of the Holy Rosary

The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. October is also the month in which Mary appeared for the last time to the shepherd children in Fátima, Portugal urging them to, "say the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world". The liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7.

During the month of October, we are all encouraged to pray the Rosary. Students are invited to bring in their own Rosary beads that they have at home, or purchase a set from the school office for $1.00 (correct cash only).  Classes will be praying the Rosary during this month. If you wish to pray the Rosary as a family, we hope you find this resource helpful.

Catholic Mission

The Theme for Catholic Mission Month is ‘Hearts on Fire - Feet on the Move’.

Who is the Patron Saint of travel?

The Gospel is read by the Priest. Following the Gospel, the Priest says, “The Gospel of the Lord.” Our response is…. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

St Francis of Assisi Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.
