ECU School Holiday Activities

ATAR Revision sessions

A reminder about the free ATAR Revisions session that are taking place for current year 12's on the 25th of September to the 29th of September. These sessions are a great, unique opportunity for students to revise content during the break that is delivered by engaging and enthused teachers who are currently teaching the 2023 syllabus. 

 

Each session comprises a four-hour seminar covering: 

• The Year 12 syllabus

• Examination techniques and revision tips 

• A question-and-answer session

• A copy of revision notes

 

Subjects covered include:

• Maths Applications 

• Math Methods 

• Maths Specialist

• Physics 

• Computer Science

Are you a high school student with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, or other neurodiversities? Always wanted to explore science but weren’t sure of the type of supports available to you? Spend the day at ECU Joondalup to explore two hands-on science workshops & meet other scientists who also identify as ‘neurospicy’. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with new friends, share your love of science, & to see if studying science at ECU is right for you.

 

 

Thursday, 28 September

A Day in the life of an ECU SCIENCE STUDENT - www.trybooking.com/CHPRT

 

This one-day event will give you an insight into what it’s like to study science at uni, starting with a lecture in your area of interest and a tour of our facilities. You’ll get a break for lunch and a chance to explore campus (and our many cafes), followed by an interactive workshop. Finish the day with a Q&A session about entry pathways, student life and study options.

 

Please note: This event is tailored to year 12 students TAFE students and Mature Age Students

ECU's School of Science is proud to offer this workshop for High School aged students interested in learning more about computing and security. Join us and learn how to build your own website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The day will start with exploring ChatGPT before moving onto learning how to code, moving to calculations and structures finishing off with your own website - better than ChaptGPT.

 

Tuesday, 26 September

This workshop is for high school students and/or teachers interested in knowing more about cyber security, cyber challenges, and how to approach Capture the Flag competitions. We will explore Linux, Cyber tools, and Cyber challenges - Grok Cyber Challenges, Pico CTF, PECAN+CTF, CyberTaipan, and DownUnderCTF. We will also spend some time creating your own challenges - start building your cyber community.

ECU's School of Science is proud to offer this coding workshop for High School aged students who are intermediate to advance in their programming skills. You need to have some knowledge of C#. We will be coding a dungeon and dragon-type game. The program will take you through game design and game development. We will be using Godot/Unreal Engine to create 2D characters that can move around a space such as an endless dungeon.

ECU's School of Science: Computing and Security invite intermediate high school students to join us for a day of coding Arduino's. You will learn how to code an Arduino, add lights, servo’s, motors and distance sensors. From here you will be tasked with several challenges over the day to develop specific code that results in the completion of a project. Can you fulfill the task?

ECU's School of Science is proud to offer this Intelligence workshop for High School aged students interested in learning more about working in the field of security and intelligence. We will be viewing information, researching data, making assumptions, and checking our findings. Who stole the gold, what happened to the penguin go, and Where is Wally? Test your observations, problem solving and super sleuthing skills.

ECU's School of Science is proud to offer this workshop for high school-aged students/teachers interested in learning more about computing and security. Join us for a day of coding in Python using micro: bits to create press-button games with LEDs, Bluetooth, compasses, and accelerometers. The day will start with learning the basics of Python to program Micro: bits.

ECU's School of Science is proud to offer this workshop for high school-aged students/teachers interested in learning more about computing and security. Join us for the day and learn about how you can be cyber secure, understand networks, the cyber defence cycle, simple hacks and capturing flags. We will use free open-source resources and cyber tools.

Murdoch University New Scholarships

Murdoch University has introduced two new Scholarships to support students seeking to study Engineering:

  1. Murdoch University Access Engineering $12,000 Scholarship 2024 Murdoch University Access Engineering Scholarship  for students applying for the Bachelor Engineering Honours who are; from regional and remote areas, females wanting to study STEM, students who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, students who are ‘first generation’ to attend university, students experiencing financial hardship, students who are LGBTQIA, and others who have experienced hardship. Applications close 1 Dec 2023.
  2. Murdoch University Indigenous Engineering Pathway Scholarship ($9000 - $12,000) 2024 Murdoch University Indigenous Engineering Pathway Scholarship for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students seeking to access Engineering study or careers via the Bachelor Engineering Technology. Applications close 1 Dec 2023.

Murdoch’s new $12,000 Ngala Kwop Biddi Brighter Futures Scholarship, sees every Secondary School in WA allocated one scholarship to award to a current Year 12 who has demonstrated leadership in either Sustainability; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; or First Nations. The link to the student facing page is 2024 Ngala Kwop Biddi Brighter Futures Scholarship (murdoch.edu.au) They're seeing some great nominations come in, illustrating that we have some terrific young citizens in our Schools. The ‘on time’ nominations have been extended to Fri 27 Oct to allow Schools more time to liaise with their students and nominate a recipient.
