Visual Arts and Photography
As Term 3 draws to a close there has been much activity in the Creative Arts and Languages classrooms. Our Year 12 Japanese students have completed their HSC speaking examination, Year 12 Drama has performed their polished monologues and group compositions, Year 12 Music students are about to perform their final performances and viva-voce and Year 12 Visual Arts students have submitted their Body of Work and Visual Diary for marking, and finally Year 11 are completing their end of preliminary exams.
We are also fortunate enough to be starting the renovation of the Art Studios which will be completed by the end of the year, it is so exciting to have the rooms transform in versatile and adaptive learning spaces.
In our classrooms we have been…
Year 7 have developed their understanding of The Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Students have explored the Steampunk genre and created an array of steampunk style designs. Applying painting techniques each student has produced their own painting. Using the subject matter from their paintings students will construct a sculpture using a diverse range of materials. We are looking forward to viewing some exciting creations.
During the term Year 8 have explored artworks based on themes of Inner and Outer worlds. After developing their own ideas students have painted compositions incorporating the themes. There has have been some interesting and fantastical results.
Year 9 visual artists have been exploring the notion of 3D, 4D and illusion art as a part of their studies. Students have explored the Op art movement from an historical and critical perspective while creating their own compositions which explored any aspect drawing, film, animation or other choice of mediums. It has been challenging but exciting to see the outcomes of the students work.
Year 9 artists practice has been working individually to compose their own individual artworks, exploring any mediums of their choice. Alongside this exploration students have also completed drawings of eyes and small artworks which are encased in an old projector frame, we hope to have these on display in the Resource Centre next term.
Year 10 has recently completed an Artist study on their choice of Artist. Students developed their own inquiry question and conducted research to form their response. Students selected a broad range of creatives including Impressionist artists, Manga artists, Op artists, movie directors and authors. Students had the opportunity to dig deep exploring the creatives’ practices and influences. Students have moved on to creating a series of small works based on a chosen theme. When the series of artworks are complete, works will be bound into Artists Books.
Year 11 Visual Arts students have been exploring a minor Body of Work which goes through the process, on a smaller scale, to that of the HSC Body of Work Process. Students have examined a range of artist, their artmaking practices and experimented with ideas and mediums. In conjunction with this study, students have also been preparing for their End of Preliminary exams, developing a deeper knowledge of artists and building on their visual arts vocabulary.
Year 12 Visual Arts students have finally submitted their final HSC Body of Work. After working on developing ideas and concepts over the past few terms students have developed artworks which are relational and developed through experimentation and research. It has been wonderful to witness the progression of the artists and their artworks. During this time students also sat their Trial HSC and have been working on the consolidation of their learning. Good luck in the future endeavours to our Year 12 students.
