Recalling Last Friday's Heartwarming Gathering

Last Friday was indeed a day to remember, particularly for the Year Six boys. The phrase "Old Boy" carries a multitude of images and memories. From the Year 12 student proudly sporting his new TOBA cap and tie during the year-end assembly to the 20-year-old bravely competing in the Toba winter sports day, from fathers enrolling their sons in the Junior School with immense pride to the spirited President and member of the class of 1989 gracing us with their wisdom each month. On this particular day, we embraced some very special Old Boys.

"These old boys are the members of the Golden Heritage Club - old boys who left TC, 50 or more years ago. Year Six students were very lucky this afternoon to be able to sit with these gentlemen and ask questions to find out what school life was like back when they went to Trinity College or CBC The Terrace. Our annual Golden Heritage interview was a highlight for the Year Six boys.

Congratulations to Luke Thompson and the Junior School Soccer Team who competed against the other regional winners and runner ups in the State Finals. Our team was awarded the “Fair Play” award for the whole competition which is something to be very proud of.

Chess Competition

Our Junior School Chess team travelled to St Paul’s Primary on Tuesday to compete in an Interschool Tournament. All players competed in 8 rounds of games with a lot of close calls! Trinity performed superbly and walked away with 2nd Place overall. A special mention to Sohil Verma who was the 3rd ranked student overall out of approximately 45 students. The team represented Trinity with pride and were excellent ambassadors for the College.

Experimenting in Fermentation

This week the Year 6’s engaged in an experiment to learn about the process of fermentation; when yeasts eat sugar and turn it into energy. We learned adding sugar gives the yeast something to eat and speeds up the process. We observed a bubbly crust forming as the yeast ate the sugar and gave off gasses. This reaction produces carbon dioxide, captured by placing balloons over the bottles.
