Remodelling our Eucalyptus Tree:

Our huge Middle School Eucalyptus tree has had a major remodel. It was a hard decision but one that needed to be made.

Mrs Marshall was very sad and did advocate on behalf of the tree.

So I visited with room 17 and explained the serious safety hazard Eucalyptus trees provide. They easily drop branches, and a child was killed in Australia, along with other children and a teacher suffering injuries, when this happened not too long ago.

With more extreme and regular extreme weather events in recent times likely to worsen with global weather pattern changes due to climate change, we had to take this hazard seriously. Because the Kindy had approached me to express their safety concerns, I would have been personally liable if I hadn't acted and an accident had occurred.

Room 17 children appreciated the visit, understood the situation and were pleased they could choose a new tree to be planted in its place. They were also pleased the existing Eucalyptus could still be sat in, climbed and safely played on.

Our Property Manager, Shane, does a brilliant job looking after our school. His fencing around muddy areas has a design feature that lets stray balls roll out. Simple but very effective.

Below are three photos of the state of our roofs prior to a big clean.

As you can see, the cleaning was very effective.

Below are two photos of a path at the foot of our senior playground that leads to the rooms 31 to 34 classroom block. These paths were incredibly slippery. Regular water blasting was a very temporary fix and pitted the path quite badly.

I had the idea of installing a mat, but the mat I chose was not as good as the one Shane suggested - and installed. It has solved a really serious problem and makes me happy every time I walk on it!
