Student Wellbeing

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

National Science Week is an annual celebration of science and technology.   This week, we have encouraged our students to let their curiosity run wild, we have challenged their problem solving skills and have ignited their inner scientist!

Our Year 3 and 4 students imagined stepping into the cockpit of a jet and attempted to land a jet safely on a runway!  This learning experience promoted teamwork and problem solving skills as two students worked together to make quick decisions while adjusting controls to ensure their propeller plane landed safely.

Fifteen of our budding astronauts spent an hour listening to Australia’s own Astronaut in Training, Katherine Bennell-Pegg.  Katherine is currently in Germany undergoing astronaut training. She gave us an insider's perspective on the exciting field of space exploration, including how her role as a space engineer and her ability to balance her personal interests have successfully assisted her to become an astronaut in training.   Katherine explained how scuba diving is assisting her to develop her skills to potentially undertake a spacewalk, and that it is necessary to spend 2 hours in the gym building her muscles and strength to assist to keep her in good health during a space mission.

Our Year 1 and 2 students have been excitedly exploring dinosaurs and fossils (see the pictures below).  This week has spiked their curiosity further as they have been digging for dinosaur fossils during lunch time!

National Science Week is a wonderful reminder that if we immerse ourselves in the wonders of science, we can boost our students' curiosity and adventure. We can grow a passion for understanding the world around us! We love seeing our future scientists at Greenhills in action.
