Positive Education

RU OK? Day

On Thursday 14 September, all students from Kinder to Year 10 are encouraged to come to school wearing yellow accessories (yellow hair ribbons, yellow clips, yellow socks etc) to spread the word that it is important to check in with friends and ask them if they are ok. The main theme for this year's RU OK? Day is ‘I’m here to hear', which reminds all of us that yes, it is easy to ask the question but it is paramount that we sit and listen to the response.

As a College we provide an ideal platform to educate our students about mental health, openly discussing concerns or worries which in turn allows our students to gain a better understanding of this subject. Having the  conversations and providing education can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues, as ignorance often fuels prejudice and discrimination. This stigma can be reduced making it more likely for students and staff to seek the support they may require without any fear or judgement.

Using a platform like RU OK Day not only continues the conversation but also promotes resilience across our community, creates a supportive environment for all and provides our students and staff with life long skills recognising that they are not alone as they navigate what can sometimes be tricky times.

By making RU OK Day a normal part of our wellbeing journey at the College it continues to break down barriers, reduce suffering, and promote overall well-being.  All of which only have positive implications.
