Football Grand Finalists

There was much excitement and anticipation on Tuesday afternoon, as the Year 9/10 football team headed to Bell St to take on Sacred Heart in the Grand Final.  Last week was an unofficial semi-final, as the winner of the match between Fahan and Mount Carmel would finish in 2nd place on the ladder and qualify for the Grand Final.  Mr Chapman rallied the troops, and the team didn’t disappoint, putting on a wonderful performance, in a tight match, to win 8 – 5 – 53 to Fahan 7 – 4 – 46.

The Grand Final was a tough encounter, with both teams muscling for possession.  Sacred Heart scored two goals early, but Mount Carmel fought back, making it hard for Sacred Heart to break free of the packs.  Maighan Arnold rucked brilliantly, winning most of the taps, but it was equally hard for the MCC players to win the clearances, as SHC continued to tackle strongly.  Phoebe Gatehouse was kept busy in defence, mopping up and kicking out well.  Lacey Tilyard worked tirelessly in the midfield, but was forced out of the game just before half time with a head knock.   Luck was not on our side, as then Addison Broadbent, who was clearing the ball well, copped a knock to her calf, forcing her from the ground.  Meanwhile, SHC kicked away, putting the game beyond reach.  The team battled hard all game and should be very proud of their efforts.  The final score was SHC 7 – 9 – 51 to MCC 0 – 0 – 0.
