Paying it Forward

In the Year 10 Career Education and Learning Tutor class, students have been learning about the concept of 'paying it forward', which forms the basis of their large project. The project asks students to identify organisations or people in the local community that could benefit from their help and then provide those people or organisations with assistance.

One project group from Year 10 Eucalyptus decided to pay it forward by donating their old clothes to the Salvation Army in Dandenong to help local families and individuals in need. The students also decided to donate their loose change into the Salvation Army wishing well.

Well done to the following students for their generosity: Banin A, Sirkannan H, Nirosi K, Niivega P,  Zakir N and Kebek T.

Lilydale Bowls with Cire

On Wednesday, 23rd August, the VET Community Services class went lawn bowling to develop their skills at communication and working with diverse people. Students went to Cire services and looked at a range of training programs, including programs for empowering women by supporting them to rejoin the workforce and programs for marginalised young people. Then they set off to Lilydale Bowls Club where they interacted with a group of patient and knowledgeable older people to learn about lawn bowling. Students also met students from other schools and enjoyed a halal BBQ lunch with the wide range of people they met on the day.

Here are some of their reflections!

It was a very fun, exciting, happy event with such games with old people and community service. I am happy with community service.

It was a very fun, exciting, and happy event in which we had an absolutely amazing time with the CIRE Organisation. We also learnt how to lawn bowl, and personally it was my first time lawn bowling. Overall, Lilydale Bowls Club was a great event, and I had a wonderful time with everyone.

The community in this place is absolutely amazing with many outstanding people that were helping the community with the sports. They provided us with beef sausages, chicken sausage, and soda. I had a really great time. I would come back to this place when I get older. I would come back. It was truly a fun experience.
