On Thursday 31st August, Year 10 Food Technology hosted a “Cultural Market Stall” with students preparing delicious treats, sweet and savoury for invited guests. The students selected a country and made a dish from the cuisine Period 1 and 2, then served the dishes Period 3. There was a wide array of food on offer: sorbet, butter chicken, pizza, mochi balls, cinnamon doughnuts, quesadilla and guacamole, to name but a few. The taste testers showed overwhelming support for the skill shown by the students and staff were amazed at the student achievement. Congratulations to all involved!

On Tuesday 15th August, the Year 10 music students headed in to the city to experience the Music Matinee concert. First stop was the Australian Music Vault where we saw memorabilia from the Australian music industry. Next we heard some buskers on Bourke Street before having lunch in Melbourne Central. Arash played a piece on the public piano before we headed to The Scot’s Church to watch the performance. We heard a duet ensemble of Lucas Levin on the Viola and Yi-Shing Chen on the piano. They performed four works in different styles. The students enjoyed “Whispered Lullaby” and the final Sonata the most. It was a great day out enjoying music together.
On Wednesday August 30th, two bands from Dandenong High School participated in the SEVR Battle of the Bands. After a few weeks of rehearsals we set off on two buses to Cranbourne Secondary College who were hosting the event.
The performances were phenomenal and our two bands were no exception. The Rock Band performed ‘You Only Live Once’ and ‘Enter Sandman’ and were well received by the audience. The Senior Band performed ‘Perfect’, ‘Love Will Keep Us Alive’ and ‘Until I Found You’ - the audience loved both performances - especially Peter’s vocals, Lenon’s solo and the harmonies sung by our wonderful seniors! Everyone sang along with Hope and Adrian in ‘Until I Found You’ which was awesome to witness!
We’re all looking forward to performing again at the DHS Art Expo and Summer Concert, and next year at Battle of The Bands again!
Students in Year 7 and 8 Music went into the city to watch the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra perform Benjamin Britain’s Guide to the Orchestra. Before the concert, the students attended The Australian Music Vault and saw some memorabilia from Australia's rich musical history. Then, after a lovely lunch we went into Hamer Hall and watched the orchestra perform.
