On the 7th to the 9th of August, the Year 4’s went on camp to Phillip Island Adventure Resort. They had only one camp leader called KC, and they participated in four activities. The activities were giant swing, archery, flying fox and a low ropes course. From all reports, the food was pretty good.

Sports Summary

by Liam and Charlie H

On Monday, the 7th of August, 20 chosen Year 5 and 6 students went to play District Basketball at Springers Leisure Centre.  The boys team played well, winning four games, drawing one and losing four. The boys team finished equal fourth with Kingston Heath, since we drew with them in the final game.

The girls team won four games and lost four games. They finished in fourth place and had a successful day.

Both teams displayed the four school values and had an awesome day.  Thank you to Mrs Robinson for coaching and the parents who came to support and help.

District Athletics

This term, the Year 3 to 6’s participated in House Athletics, with a variety of track and field events.  The top 2 winners from each event are going to Districts Athletics, which was held on the 22nd of August.  This was held at Duncan McKinnon Reserve, with OLA, Cheltenham Primary, LePage, Southmoor, Cheltenham East, Stella Maris, Mentone Grammar, Mentone Girls, Kingston Heath, and Heatherton Christian College.  The top 2 winners from all the track and field events go through to division.

Charlie Nelson won the 1500 metre race by a landslide.  She unfortunately lost the 800-metre race by just a couple metres.  The day was raining very heavily for most of it, and high jump was called off to next Monday.  Henry Gadson came 2nd in shot put and the 200-metre race. Liam Chamoff came 3rd in 800m and Triple Jump.

FIFA Women's World Cup

This winter, Australia and New Zealand hosted the Women’s World Cup.  32 teams from all over the world came to Australia and New Zealand to compete in the biggest competition in soccer.  The United States were the favorites to win the whole thing but got knocked out in the round of 16 in a big upset against Sweden.

The Matildas, of course, were being supported by the whole of Australia. They had an incredible run, only losing against Nigeria.  In the Quarter Finals, they played France, and it went to penalties.  The whole of Australia was hanging on by the edge of their seats, and when the Matildas finally won 7-6, the cheer from everyone could be heard in France.

They sadly lost in the Semi Final against England.

Australia unfortunately lost to Sweden 2-0 in the third place play off while Spain defeated England 1-0 to win the Final.

This World Cup has been the biggest sporting event in Australia's history and has definitely boosted women's soccer in money and views.  Everyone is already looking forward to the next Women's World Cup in 2027.

National Cross Country

By Cameron and Nameer

On Sunday, Charley Nelson and Sam Bradley are going to try and achieve success in the National Cross Country.  Due to their spectacular performance in the State Cross Country, they are both going to fly out to Canberra and try their best to win! Here are Charley and Sam’s thoughts and opinions on the competition.

  • What were your motivations to get this far?  Charley: “Run super-fast, and don’t stop”.
  • Are you nervous about competing against other highly skilled runners? Charley: Of course, I still can't believe I made it this far. I have done really well in cross country this year, but the competition was never something I expected to get into. Now, they're the best runners of my age, in all of Australia!”
  • How Are you feeling about the race?  Charley: I’m really excited, also kind of scared. All of the other runners have trained for a long time, and it’s definitely going to be my hardest run yet.
  • Did You Expect to Make it This Far?  Charley: Definitely not. I knew I was good, but I never would have expected to get this far. If you’d told me at the start of the year that I would make it all the way to Nationals, I wouldn’t have believed you.
  • Do you think you’re going to do well?  Charley: I don’t know, but I still hope that I’m going to succeed. It would be really amazing for me if I got into the top 10 of Australia.”

(Unfortunately, Sam Bradley was Absent on the day that we tried to interview him.)

Next edition:

We are interviewing Mr Ridgway. What do you think his favorite food is?

Nude food is returning to CEPS. We will have an update for you. Who will win the Golden Lunchbox?
