Our Learning Story

Progressive Reports

A learning story outlines the journey our students take to reach their aspirations. With no two journies the same, each is unique and taking its own path to success. Even then, the success measures may look different for every child. As your child's educators, we aim to take our parents and guardians on the journey as best we can, ensuring you are informed and understand your child as a learner.

Traditionally, schools must report to families and guardians twice yearly through a formal report where your child is measured against the Victorian Curriculum standards. This is where you will receive a progression point (dot) that shows how your child is achieving against the standards (see an example below). Whilst this is important, it does show the learning that has occurred to reach this point.

At WPS, we believe in ongoing reporting that shows you how your child is progressing towards the expected standards throughout the term. Providing progressive reports strengthens the partnership between the school and parents/guardians through home learning opportunities and celebrating student successes. We encourage families to frequently check their children's digital portfolios and celebrate their successes.

Where can I find my child's progressive reports?

All Progressive Reports can be found on Seesaw. They are published every two weeks, and you will receive a notification on Compass when these are available. Progressive reports will always be tagged to the 'Assessment Task' folder, including an overview, strength and personalised next learning point.

How do I log in to Seesaw?

Every child at Wollert Primary School has a digital portfolio on the platform Seesaw. Please follow these steps if you have not logged in to view your child's portfolio.

1)Download the Seesaw Families App from the App Store.

2) Contact your child's Homeroom teacher for their unique access QR Code.

How can I work with my child at home?

Our Homeroom teachers will provide ideas and suggestions to complement your child's next learning point. Students in the Middle and Senior Learning Communities who participate in our Home Learning Program (optional) will have tasks assigned to Seesaw to assist in reinforcing taught skills from school. If you would like your child to participate in Home Learning, please let your child's Homeroom Teacher know so they can provide an access code and assign relevant tasks.

Working with your child/children at home should not be an arduous task or something that does not provide joy. Instead, we aim to suggest activities or learning that are authentic, time-efficient, and effective in achieving your child's learning goals.

Below are some images of students engaging in learning tasks that can be replicated at home:

Digital Home Learning:

Online learning games and websites can be difficult to navigate. The quality of the learning that the website of the App provides can be varied; however, there are definitely some useful games and Apps worth utilising. The key is balance!

Students in our Prep and Junior Learning Communities have access to an online reading platform, Decodables Online. We strongly recommend all of our Prep and Junior students access this as part of their 'Home Reading Program'. Decodable Online directly marries with the instruction provided in the classroom and will reinforce what your child is learning. The program is individualised, therefore, your child is assigned appropriate books and activities.

If you have not yet tried Decodables Online, please get in touch with your child's Homeroom Teacher for your access code.

Try this at home!

If you are looking for a free and interactive games website that offers a fun way to learn, check out https://www.topmarks.co.uk/

Topmarks is appropriate for all primary-aged students and has a range of fun games to reinforce maths skills at home. Below are just some examples of the topics covered through games. Please ensure you monitor your child's screen time and provide a balance of digital and unplugged learning experiences from home!
