Grade Prep

Explore the Learning in Grade Prep

The preps are making continual growth in their learning and growing in height too! We can’t believe we only have 1 more term left this year. The preps continue to enjoy the buddy sessions and also a seeing the year 6 presentations of their dioramas.

Here is snapshot of some of the things we have been recently learning.

READING

It has been wonderful to see the students increase their independent reading stamina.

We have been learning different ways to summarise a text and learning to ask questions about what we read to get a deeper understanding. The students also enjoy our weekly reading activity -  The 5-finger rule – name the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end.

WRITING

On a weekly basis the students have been making entries into their Writer’s Notebook about a memory, responding to:

- identify when it happened

- who was there

- what we did

- where we were

- how I felt

We have also been focussing on adding detail to our writing, ‘zooming in’ and describing some things in detail.

MATHS

Subtraction has been a recent focus, students actively participating in worded problems and subtraction games.

We are beginning to use Essential Assessment on the iPad, this another way of pre and post assessment. We have certainly seen a lot of growth across the foundation year level.

POSITIVE EDUCATION

We have had a big focus on teamwork, friendship and our zones of regulation. The students have been learning different strategies to help reset and move forward.
