Secondary Sport

QGSSSA Hockey

The Clayfield College Senior A Hockey team recently wrapped up their season on a high note by securing an impressive 9-goal victory over their competitors from BSHS. Throughout the season, the team achieved several notable wins and suffered only one loss to BGGS, who appear poised to claim the pennant this year.

Having had the privilege of assisting this talented team, I have witnessed remarkable individual skill development in each player. Their exceptional teamwork has played a pivotal role in the 20-plus goals scored during the season.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated parents and supporters who consistently showed up early to encourage the team. Your unwavering support has undoubtedly made a significant impact. Special appreciation is extended to Mrs Lennon for her fantastic halftime snacks and continued support over the years.

We bid farewell to Abi Carr and Katie Lennon, our two Year 12 students, and extend our heartfelt gratitude for their active participation and unwavering support of Clayfield College Hockey throughout their time at the College. We eagerly anticipate the return of the rest of the team next season, ready to continue their impressive journey.

QGSSSA Track and Field Championships

As the days grow shorter and the excitement builds, the eagerly anticipated QGSSSA Track and Field Championships are just around the corner. Our athletes have been training relentlessly, perfecting their skills, and fine-tuning their technique in preparation for the final championship event of the year. With the big day drawing nearer, the anticipation is palpable, and our relay teams have been leaving no stone unturned in their quest for excellence.

One of the key elements of our preparation for the QGSSSA Track and Field Championships has been our unwavering focus on skill and technique improvement. Our athletes understand that success on the track is not solely about speed but also about precision and form. Whether it is sprinting, hurdling, jumping, or throwing, each discipline requires a unique set of skills, and our team has been diligently honing these abilities.

In the sprints, our athletes have been working on their explosive starts and maintaining proper form throughout the race. Our hurdlers have been mastering the art of clearing the barriers with efficiency, while our throwers have been perfecting their techniques to maximise their distances. Our jumpers have taken flight, soaring through the air, and perfecting their run ups to clear the bar.

Relays are a true test of teamwork and precision. The synergy between team members and flawless baton passes are essential for victory. Our relay teams have recognised this fact and have been tirelessly rehearsing their baton passing and changes. Each exchange has been scrutinised and refined to ensure that not a fraction of a second is wasted. The cohesion within these teams is encouraging, and they are poised to deliver some noteworthy performances on the big day.

Beyond the technical aspects of track and field, our athletes have been fostering a spirit of friendly competition, not only with their teammates but with competitors from our associated schools at the Friday night Lead Up Meets.

As the final days count down, the excitement and anticipation continue to build. Our athletes are ready to put their skills and technique to the test, and our relay teams are poised to execute their races with precision.

As we eagerly anticipate this exciting event, let us come together as a community, display the CC spirit and rally behind our athletes. I invite parents, caregivers, and student spectators to come and cheer for our athletes. Your encouragement and support always makes a world of difference to our athletes. Let’s go CC!

Student Spectators

As part of our commitment to fostering a strong sense of community and school spirit, all Secondary School students are required to attend and support this event.

The Championships are scheduled for Thursday 14 September, and will take place at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (QSAC) in Nathan, commencing at 8:20am and concluding at 2:30pm.

To ensure the smooth transportation of students to and from QSAC, the College will provide buses departing from Bayview Terrace at 8:20am and returning at approximately 3:00pm. We kindly request that all student spectators utilise the school-provided transportation for this event, as it is considered a regular school day.

I extend our sincere gratitude in advance to all students who will support the QGSSSA Track and Field team and the College during this event. Your presence and enthusiasm contribute significantly to the spirit of our College community.
