A conversation can change a life.

Mrs Audrey Fellowes

Deputy Principal - Head of Primary

On Wednesday 13 September, students from Pre-Prep to Year 12 and staff will be raising awareness for R U Ok? Day. On this day, we will acknowledge the importance of stopping to ask a friend and colleague how they are.

The key message is that social connectedness and positive help seeking can assist people in crisis and is a whole of community responsibility.

Students will participate in activities throughout the week that will help them to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them. In Pastoral Care classes and Wellbeing and Foundation lessons, students will be taken through the conversation steps to show them how to ask someone if they are OK, and if they are not, help them find strategies to better manage their challenges. If they are OK, that person will know someone cares enough to ask. For our students from Pre-Prep to Year 12, this will be done in an age-appropriate manner with their teachers and staff who know them well.

This Term, Year 8 has focused on this Awareness Day during their Wellbeing and Foundation lessons. They have come up with some interesting and very different ways to set up the environment to start a conversation around wellbeing. Further lunchtime activities will be running on Monday and Tuesday in the lead-up to R U OK? Day.

Our Year 8s have risen to the challenge of driving this event in the Secondary School and while it is intended to be a fun way to engage with each other, the message is an important one. Not just on R U OK? Day, but every day we can help someone by noticing, listening and simply asking this simple question, “Are you ok?”

At our College Reception, we will be selling R U OK? Day items, which you are welcome to purchase and wear on the day. There are badges, pens, wrist bands and hats ranging from $3.00 to $15.00. Cash only will be taken for these items.

As a community, thank you for helping us to raise awareness for such an important day!
