SongMakers Workshop

Last week we welcomed back the Songmakers Program to BSC. This fantastic initiative allows students with a dedicated interest in music a chance to pursue their passion alongside other likeminded individuals.

The two day intensive song writing workshop, funded by APRA AMCOS, enables industry leading songwriters and producers to lead the students in the song making process. The program, involving students across a range of year levels, from Year 7 right through to Year 12, helps improve communication skills, self esteem and confidence amongst the participants.

Matilda Venes explains, 'There were four groups, mentored by Seetali Mack, Woodes (Elle Graham), and Bea Lewis. The mentors led group activities to help explain the song writing process, and then assisted each group to develop their song lyrics and structure. On the second day, Seetali and Elle took a group each and recorded their songs, while Bea took the other two groups for a chat about getting into the music industry and registering our songs.

Half way through the day the groups swapped around and by the end of it, we were inspired by our possible future careers, and buzzing with excitement to hear each other’s songs. Everyone agreed that the producers had done a fantastic job, as had the students, with their commitment to their pieces of music.

Big thanks to APRA AMCOS for funding this amazing two-day workshop, thanks to Ms Muirhead and Mr Gawne for spending their time getting involved, and a massive thanks to Ms Conroy for organising the whole experience and getting people involved in the fun.'

Throughout the next few assemblies each group will have their songs played in full. All participants will also have a half-day production workshop during Term 4 to learn more about the post production work with the songs. Congratulations to all the students who participated; you should be really proud of the final song results!
