The Inquiry Project

Kate Korber returned to St Mary’s last week and worked with teams and in classrooms, supporting curiosity and thinking strategies.

Year 1

The Year 1 students were very lucky to welcome Emma, from Supreme Incursions, earlier this term. The incursion was focused on building items with a range of materials. This is an area students have been inquiring about and excitedly built a variety of moving vehicles with many different materials. Students worked collaboratively in groups to complete a task. Most students enjoyed the billy carts and even explored the area of forces and friction.

Year 5 News: Exploring the World of Business

Our Year 5 students have been hard at work, diving into an exciting Inquiry unit that asks some big questions: What makes a business successful, sustainable, and ethical? What influences people to purchase from certain companies?

Through this unit, our students have been exploring the difference between needs and wants, learning how businesses cater to these, and discovering what it takes to run a successful venture. Later this term, students will take their learning to the next level by creating their own businesses!

The culmination of this project will be our very own 'Marketplace,' where students will showcase their products and services. Other students will have the opportunity to purchase from these businesses, with all proceeds going towards Caritas, supporting those in need.

Stay tuned for more updates as our young entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life!

First, we explored a few local businesses and noted down our "wonderings," sparking curiosity and generating thoughtful questions about what makes a business thrive.

We brainstormed innovative stall ideas for our upcoming marketplace and categorized them into either services or products.

We looked at different advertisements and talked about who they are trying to reach and why. This helped us understand how businesses design their ads to appeal to certain people.

Next week, we’ll establish our businesses and start planning our marketing strategies to promote our products. We are so excited!
