What's happening in Wellbeing . . .
Peacful Kids Program
The first round of students successfully completed our new Peaceful Kids program. We have heard many positive comments from the students and some families. I am delighted to announce that the second round of the program has commenced with more of our students from year 1/2. They waited patiently to begin the program and are very excited to be a part of it.
The first session kicked off well. Kim and I are looking forward to working with them for the remainder of this term.
Cancellation of the Shine and Strength Program
We would like to inform the community that we had concerns about the gender stereotyping that was prominent in the Shine and Strength program as this goes against the values of Lalor East and the work we have previously done with our students over the years. We are a lead school for the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationship Program and are completely committed to the values of gender identity and gender equality. After many discussions amongst relevant staff members, it has been decided that Lalor East would discontinue the program at our school.
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships
The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program continues to run. During term 3, students will be focusing on unit 7 Gender and Identity. Learning activities in this topic are designed to assist students to reflect on their gendered identity, develop an awareness of positive and negative gender norms, challenge negative gender norms and to develop an appreciation of difference.
The P – 2 area have also continued their work on Unit 3 Positive Coping. Part of this unit assists students to reflect on their emotional responses, helps them to look at ways that they can take responsibility for their actions and allows them to practise techniques to deal with feelings of fear, frustration, and anger.
