Year 10 News

Year 10 students had a good Week 5, with many students participating in the diverse activities available to them, such as AgQuip, Work Placement, Wellbeing Day and the Diocesan Athletics Carnival.
Students participated in their Term 3 Wellbeing Day, which saw them trek through the beautiful bushland surrounding Glenrock Lagoon. They were guided by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service local, Jane, who has lived in Redhead for 40 years and travelled the Yuelarbah Walking Track and Management Trail with school students over 5,000 times. Students took the path down to Glenrock Beach, and spent some time enjoying their surroundings, playing games together and refueling their bodies, before getting ready for the walk back. They got to meet local surfers who spoke about some of the wildlife out and about for the day and talked about the delicate ecosystem present in the area before they made their trek back to the top. On the way, students braved steep inclines and narrow staircases, seeing other travellers, some waterfalls, mountain bikers and also diverse forms of wildlife, including a puggle and her mother. A very large thank you to the wonderful staff who supported our students at this event. It could not have occurred without you!
This term, students have had the opportunity to review their finalised elective classes for 2025 and change or alter classes depending on need. If students continue to have concerns, or would like to request a change, these may be accommodated. Please speak to Mr Bristow, as he can guide you in this process. Students will have the option to change classes in the first three weeks of Term 1, 2025, depending on availability and other factors.
As students are wrapping up their year of study here at SJCC, please make sure that if students are absent, we are notified via Compass portal, phone call to our lovely office staff or email. For students that are leaving to gain employment, entering apprenticeships or traineeships, or are accessing other educational settings, their attendance really matters and may be the difference between them gaining or losing these opportunities.
Students returning in 2025 will begin their alternate program upon completing Yearly Examinations in Term 4, Week 4. This program, which relies heavily on community involvement, is subject to change and will be emailed out to students once it is finalised. The program allows for all students remaining to complete mandatory training in preparation for their Preliminary and HSC courses and complete activities designed to strengthen their real-world knowledge and capacity, as demonstrated through Driver Training and First Aid courses.
