Year 12 News

Red Frogs Australia presented to Year 12 students some important messages before they depart for the wider world. After a short history lesson into the creation of Red Frogs, the first presentation involved the message surrounding partying safe. The presenter went into the impact of alcohol and drugs in the party scene and even allowed the students to create their ultimate party. After going through percentages of alcohol and some stories, students had a simulation of how being intoxicated in a club provides an easy opportunity for drinks to be spiked. He additionally warned students about the lack of appropriate testing for pills that is being trialled in some venues/festivals around the country.

During the second session on life after school, students were presented with real-life stories on the challenges faced after leaving school. These stories highlighted to the students the trials and tribulations they may face when considering their chosen career.

The final session for the day involved identity, wherein Caleb presented a new acronym for CPR:

Confidence

Purpose

Resilience.

This was highlighted through an interview with Kate Campbell, which detailed her heights as a teenager breaking world records and winning her Gold medal in Rio, but ultimately not achieving success in her main race; the 100m freestyle. The message given was that, despite this failure, Kate stayed focussed to assist her team mates in the medley relay come from behind the pack to achieve a silver medal and swim the race she had prepared for earlier. She noted that this failure helped to shape her as both an individual and an Olympian.

The students found the day valuable and would like to thank Caleb for his willingness and energy to make the day informative and memorable.
