Achievements in Science
Last term five students from Years 7 and 8 sat the Junior Science Olympiad Exam. The Junior Science Olympiad is a staged science enrichment program for highly motivated students in Australian high schools in Years 7 to 10.
The exam must be sat if a student wishes to be considered for the Junior Science Olympiad Spring School and selection on the team representing Australia at the International Junior Science Olympiad.
This exam is a challenging but rewarding exam held once a year, which includes topics in science such as Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, and Physics.
Congratulations to the following students who are receiving the following awards from their exam:
Education Perfect ANZ Science Championship
Last week our Year 7 to 10 classes also competed in the Education Perfect ANZ Science Championship. The competition lasted from Monday to Friday and all students needed to do was work through as much of the Science content in EP as they could in that time. And we had some pleasing results in Year 7 and 8.
SPX SCIENCE WEEK- Species Survival: More than just Sustainability
The SPX Science Department warmly invites all students to come and join us to celebrate SPX Science Week (Monday 26 - Wednesday 28 August).
The theme this year for Science Week is 'Species Survival: More than just Sustainability'… and there will be activities for students related to this theme each lunchtime.
There will be raffle tickets handed out to all participants, lucky door prizes and small gifts handed out. There will also be a guessing game at Student Reception.

Celebrating Scar Town, the CBCA's Book of the Year
Book Week celebrations coincide with the announcement of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year. The announcement that Tristan Bancks’ new novel, Scar Town scooped the award was met with resounding applause here. This novel has been popular since its arrival in our library with boys from Years 7 to 9 getting hooked into this thrilling mystery in the first pages. Not only do we have several print copies but we have the eBook and audiobook versions. Thank you to Mario of Year 8 for helping us promote this award-winning book.
