Big Day In at AIE & ANU
Computing Technology/STEM Excursion
Students from Year 8 Technology Mandatory, Year 9 Computing Technology, Year 9 & 10 STEM attended a 2-day excursion in Canberra on the 26th and 27th August. Students were given the opportunity to experience two different events on each day.
Day 1, we travelled to Canberra to attend a session at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) to experience how to manipulate data in 3D space using a software package called Maya 2023. It is used at the AIE to train students to go into the industries of Art, Movies and Information Technology. The main comment from the instructor was that our students were the quickest that he had seen to understand how to use and manipulate the software.
Day 2, we went to the Australian National University (ANU) to go to what’s called “The Big Day In”. During this event, students listened to industry leaders in Information Technology and witness firsthand different challenges for IT in the future and what is happening right now especially in Cyber Security. Students were also told about the opportunities for employment in the IT industry and that employers are looking for skills in team work as well as IT skills.
Our students were praised for their outstanding behaviour by the presenters and in witnessing the new materials. Students also got the opportunity to speak with the exhibitors about university and industry opportunities for their future.
Thank you to Ms Kroek who got us there and back safely.
