Level 3

Connection

This week started full of energy with our tennis clinic out in the fresh air on Monday morning. The students loved testing out their tennis and teamwork skills, with some future Australian Open stars in the making!

Reading

In reading this week we are exploring vocabulary. Students first explored synonyms and antonyms in their Just Right Books. They have then been exposed to a wide variety of poetry and have worked both individually and in small groups to dig deeper into the author’s word choices, their meanings and how they have impacted the overall mood of the poem. Students particularly enjoyed the ‘Zoom In’ thinking routine where they were presented with one word of the poem, then a sentence, then a paragraph and had to track how their thinking changed as they discovered more.

Writing

Students will also be diving into poetry for their own writing for the remainder of the term. This week they have started by looking carefully at different poems and noticing the author’s craft and poetic devices. They then became poets themselves, having a go at a diamanté poem and a poem about their dads.

Maths

This week’s maths focus is measurement. Students have had fun with estimating, filling and emptying containers with sand and using the units of millilitres and litres. They explored mass and weight through measuring classroom items using scales and will end the week learning to measure area and perimeter through some hands on investigations.

Inquiry

We have reached the time in the term where students begin to culminate their learning for their own research projects. Over the next few weeks, students will work in pairs or trios to investigate their country of choice as they work towards a final project to share. They will be introduced to their assessment rubric so they know exactly what they need to include in their presentation and then include their own creative flair.
