Secondary Community News
Lower Secondary (Years 7-8)
The 7/8’s have been gearing up for their Travel Training excursion. This week we will be travelling to the Melbourne Museum. We will be focusing on using our myki, reading bus timetables and being safe and respectful on public transport.
During inquiry, we have been focusing on change of state (Solids, liquids and gases). This week the students have been making slime, Oobleck and melting chocolate to see all the changes of state in different experiments.
Upper Secondary (Years 9-10)
9/10B students have been raising chickens in their classroom. They started out as chicks and incubated eggs, and now, all the eggs have hatched, and the chickens are growing so much! It's a testament to the students' responsibility and care to watch them grow and change over the past few weeks.
The 9/10’s won a pizza party for their Harry Potter Themed Book Week door decorations! The students had a blast eating their mini personalized pizzas.
9/10D went on an excursion to Watergardens and 9/10C went on an excursion to Highpoint. As a reward for all their hard work, students not only enjoyed playing bowling and laser tag but also had the opportunity to learn teamwork in a different environment.
This term, we have been working on measurement in math. The students put their new skills to work by following recipes. We made Slime and playdough and have now moved into food! This week, we made delicious Pancakes and cookies.

What is the ASDAN Program?
ASDAN is an accredited program for young people with special educational needs. It provides opportunities to develop and practice skills that prepare the young person to be as independent as possible. The students participate in supported travel training, work experience and community access programs that promote the development of independent living skills. It is a flexible program that allows students to experience the world beyond school and develop their personal interests, skills and future pathways.
Travel Training
Students participate in journey planning and learn how to use the PTV application. They learn about safe road and public transport usage and how to solve basic problems that may arise when traveling.
Supported Work Experience
Students participate in supported work experience, learning important daily living skills such as sweeping, raking, planting and watering. There is a focus on improving listening skills and the ability to follow instructions.
Students learn about safety in the workplace and develop employability skills.
Community Access
This program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore a wide variety of free and low-cost services available in the local community. Students visit council libraries, shopping centres, health and fitness providers and other places of interest.
The hope is to support students to develop their own interests, deepen social connections and increase self-confidence.
