Write a Book in a Day

On Friday 9 August, Year 6 students and staff participated in this year's Write a Book in a Day competition. This was our second year participating, raising over $7000 for The Kids’ Council Project.

Write a Book in a Day involves a collaborative team effort, where students work in small teams to plan, write and illustrate a book within 12 hours between 8am to 8pm.

All sponsorship funds raised go towards scientific research to discover better treatments and ultimately a cure for children with cancer.

Write a Book in a Day has contributed more than $1 million to childhood cancer research since 2009 through The Kids' Cancer Project.

Congratulations to Year 6 on the outstanding achievement.

Partnering with Parents

Partnering with parents is crucial in schools because it creates a supportive learning environment that benefits students. When we work together as a team we can address the individual needs of each child, leading to better academic outcomes and personal growth. Parental involvement fosters open communication, ensuring that both home and school are aligned in their goals for the child's education. It also encourages a sense of community, making students feel supported and valued. By collaborating, parents and educators can create a strong foundation for a child’s success, both academically, emotionally and socially. Below are two opportunities for parents to engage with a learn alongside teachers to support the needs of students in our wonderful school.

URSTRONG

Earlier this year many Junior School parents joined staff to hear about the URSTRONG program which was implemented in the Junior School in 2022. Through written communication with families and at the presentation families were invited to take advantage of a FREE Parent Membership to access hundreds of resources – including an informative video series. These resources allow parents to learn the same language & strategies being taught in the classroom through the Friendology 101 curriculum. We hope that, as a URSTRONG Family, you will reinforce the important messages of empowerment, self-compassion, and kindness at home.

If you have not done so already Click here to view an overview of URSTRONG. Then activate your FREE Parent Membership and explore all the resources available to your family. As students continue to engage in specific modules throughout the remainder of the year talk with your child about what they are learning and how are they using what they have learnt so they can co-identify social issues and learn to better communicate solutions.

Book Week

A key highlight in the children’s calendar is always the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA) national Children’s Book Week. This year the official week is from Saturday 17 August – Friday 23 August. Staff and students are keenly preparing their costumes for our Book Week parade on Friday 23 August, 2024.

Fostering a love of literature in children begins at a young age and by making reading a joyful experience through the exposure of stories that captivate their imagination we aim to show all children that, “Reading is Magic”.
