Family Heritage Award

Each year at Graduation a special award is given to any Year 12 student who is the third generation (or more) of their family to attend Kinross Wolaroi School – the ‘Family Heritage Award’.  As our database does not always identify the links between family generations, we are writing to ask that you inform us if your child falls into this category.

If this is the case, please notify Mrs Claire Milson, PA to the Principal, via email at principalpa@kws.nsw.edu.au so that your child can be placed on the list for this award. Please supply the names of the past generations of your family who attended, as well as their graduation year (if known) in your correspondence. Once supplied, this information will be added to the school database.

Appeal for New Starting Blocks for Swimmers

Our swimming program is a tremendous source of pride and accomplishment for our students, Swim Club members, and the wider community. While our swimming infrastructure saw significant improvements in 2023, including upgraded pool decks, new heating systems, and Air Pears for temperature stabilisation, our starting blocks are showing their age. To maintain our competitive edge, we are seeking the help of our community to replace our eight worn-out starting blocks with state-of-the-art Omega starting blocks.

Our goal is to raise $44,000 to install eight new Omega starting blocks at the Eric Solling Pool. One generous family has already committed to donating two blocks and the P&F is also donating one block, but we need the support of our entire community to reach our goal. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to providing a world-class experience for our swimmers.

Our pool is used by every student in the school at some point in their school life. It is home to our swim school, swimming squads and our nationally recognised swim team. It is also used extensively by the Junior School for learn to swim sessions and for their swimming carnival.

Donating a starting block offers a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in our school’s swimming history. Each starting block, valued at $5,500, comes with the option to add an engraved plaque. This can be a meaningful way to commemorate a special occasion, give a unique gift, or honor a loved one.

All donations over $2 are fully tax-deductible, and every dollar counts. To make your donation go to: https://www.trybooking.com/au/donate/kwsswimming2024

Please consider supporting this vital fundraising campaign. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at blawrence@kws.nsw.edu.au or Mr Trevor Delbridge, Business Manager, at tdelbridge@kws.nsw.edu.au

Parents Wanted

WayAhead and the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre at Macquarie University in Sydney are conducting research to identify any difficulties that young people might have in getting help for their mental health and to get ideas about how these services could be better. They are especially interested in how socioeconomic factors like family income influence access and experiences with mental health care. The main aim of the research is to improve mental health services so that they better meet the needs of children and families from all backgrounds.

They are looking to recruit caregivers who have sought mental health services for their child to participate in the research. The research team are particularly keen to hear from parents and caregivers in regional and rural areas about the difficulty they may have experienced in accessing mental health services for their child.

Information about the research can be obtained by clicking here
