Year 4 Camp - Sovereign Hill
Going out into the Community
After much anticipation, planning and preparation, Wednesday 15 October finally arrived for our Year 4 students who were very excited to be going to Ballarat for their first overnight camp at Sovereign Hill. Twenty one Year 4 students and four staff members headed for Ballarat.
This was the third year we have taken our Year 4 students on an overnight camp to Sovereign Hill and the students embraced every opportunity while they were away. They thoroughly enjoyed exploring the ‘old town’ with its houses and shops. They were successful at gold panning with every student finding gold! Thanks to the students and staff who showed perseverance and resilience just like the gold panners of the 1850’s! They worked together, helping each other even when they wanted to call it a day.
The students were so attentive at the education session where they learnt about what it was like for the Chinese miners who lived in the Chinese miners camp. We learnt how resourceful and hard working they were, given the poor conditions and compromised location of their camp. The candle dipping, the confectionary demonstration and the gold pour were also highlights. The students were impressed to think that a candle had other functions besides providing light underground. Candles were used to measure time and also the level of oxygen underground.
We received excellent feedback from the staff of Sovereign Hill who commented on how engaged and respectful our St Roch’s students were in all of the activities.
It was two days where students were
We had an incredible two days stepping back into the 1850's in Ballarat on the Goldfields, learning new information, learning outdoors with friends, with lots of hands-on and collaborative learning opportunities. The students showed incredible respect, responsibility, resilience and care of each other throughout the whole immersive experience. Thank you to our wonderful students and staff for for participating fully and ensuring that this camp experience was a positive one for all attending.
Gardening Club
The recent sunshine and rain has helped our garden bloom. Please come and have a look at the vegetables as they are thriving. There is always lots on offer for the students to enjoy each Wednesday at second break. Mrs Meseha plans engaging activities each week to stimulate the students interest in the garden whilst providing an inclusive space to play offering our students an alternative option at breaktime. Thank you Mrs Meseha!🌻
Thank you to our very dedicated group of students who are regular helpers in the garden. We know how powerful this opportunity is in supporting and enhancing all of our students wellbeing. We are very lucky!
