Year 5 and 6 History Excursion: Immigration Museum and Polly Woodside
Immigration Musuem
At the Immigration Museum, we enjoyed reading and learning about people's immigration stories. When we first arrived, we saw the immense size of the whole museum! We were got to explore the gallery where we saw where people told their life stories and why they came to Australia. We also spent time learning about more of the stories using artifacts. One of the stories we learnt about was about Japanese migrants that came to Australia to learn English but when World War 2 happened, they were sent to internement camps as they were seen as the 'enemy.'

Polly Woodside
At the Polly Woodside excursion, we explored all the main areas of the Polly Woodside (which was also called Rona later on) and learnt a lot about its history and what life back then used to be like in the 1800s. We got to do lots of activities that the people on the ship had to do, such as scrubbing the deck, ringing the bell for danger and the sleeping schedule. We explored the cabins and learnt about the different parts of the ship, like the port and starboard sides. We had lots of fun on this wonderful excursion, learning a lot about the history of the Polly Woodside.
