Do you know your way around the library?
Article by Maria Muse, Canowindra Library Leader
Earlier this year, Junior School students were challenged to complete their Library Passport. Stamps were earned by successfully navigating their way around the library.
Students were busy searching for books in the picture book, fiction and non-fiction sections of the library. Along the way, they learnt about how the books are arranged by call number, either by alphabetical order according to the author’s surname or the infamous Dewey Decimal System!
Students also became more familiar with our online library portal. This webpage has many useful resources for inquiry learning and research, including online encyclopaedias and databases.
The culmination of their passport journey was an engaging library scavenger hunt, which reinforced all the learning they had achieved. Transferrable skills were attained which will serve our young learners well as they encounter different information environments throughout their lives.
