Our Name and Logo

Our Name
Our wings are ready!
From artwork to identity, our butterfly now takes flight as the symbol and Logo for Balambalam Primary School.
We are incredibly proud to share the stunning artwork created by proud Bunurong artist, Adam Magennis and Kylie Armstrong (Arrernte country), specifically for Balambalam PS. This piece reflects both the lands on which our school stands and the vision we hold for our students and is the inspiration for our Logo.
Artwork Story
“This artwork portrays the final stage of the butterfly’s metamorphosis, a powerful symbol of transformation, resilience, and new beginnings. It speaks to the journey of a child growing within the school environment—supported, guided, and nurtured—before emerging as a young adult, strong and ready to walk their own path in the world. The colours reflect the rich landscapes and natural beauty of Bunurong Country, grounding the piece in place and belonging. The colour palette draws inspiration from the natural hues of Bunurong Country, while the design itself is created using a stencil-style technique. The traditional symbols in the painting represent pathways of clarity and communication, with the community coming together to support and nuture the students so they feel seen, valued and empowered to succeed.” – Adam Magennis and Kylie Armstrong
We were so excited to receive the artwork in our hands this week from Kylie Armstrong. This artwork will be proudly displayed in our foyer as the centrepiece of Balambalam
Primary School, this artwork will be the first thing our children, families and community see as they walk through our doors — a lasting symbol of belonging, growth, and transformation.
Creating the Logo
Working closely with the artists, we selected one of the butterflies
from the breathtaking painting in our foyer as the foundation for our school’s logo.
Our aim was to capture the spirit and intent of the artwork in simple, bold linework that translates seamlessly across uniforms, signage, print, and digital applications.
The colours and forms are drawn directly from Adam and Kylie's painting, brought together in a logo that is joyful, distinctive, and deeply connected to Country and culture.
Our logo is more than just a design—it’s a symbol of transformation, resilience, and new beginnings. Just as every butterfly is unique, so too is every student.
