Foundation Community News

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had such a wonderful start to the year and have been truly blown away by how well the Foundation students have transitioned into school. They have engaged enthusiastically in 3, 2, 1 Turrun, where they are beginning to learn the routines and expectations that support their learning and wellbeing.

It has been a joy to see students forming new connections with their peers and teachers, while proudly demonstrating our school values of Respect, Care, Kindness, and Personal Best each day.

English

In English CORE this term, students will be exploring Nursery Rhymes. Through listening, reciting and playing with rhymes, children will develop an understanding of rhythm, rhyme, and language sounds in a fun and engaging way.

In Sounds Write, students are beginning to build their phonics skills by developing an awareness of letter sounds and listening to sounds in words. This early learning will support future reading and writing. Additionally, our Story Champs program will strengthen their oral language abilities

through engaging story retells, helping them develop confidence in storytelling and communication.

Maths

In Mathematics this term, students will build strong number foundations through hands-on and engaging learning experiences. They will practise counting small numbers and develop confidence with numbers from 0–10.

Students will explore sorting and simple surveys, helping them notice similarities and differences and talk about data. They will also learn to break apart and make numbers 4 and 5, supporting early addition and subtraction within 5. Throughout the term, students will be introduced to ordinal numbers, such as first, second, and third, to help them describe position and order in everyday situations.
