Y4: Melbourne Grand Mosque Visit

Our Year 4 students recently enjoyed an enriching visit to the Melbourne Grand Mosque as part of their Islamic Studies learning. The excursion helped students observe the etiquettes, features, and daily activities of a mosque.

The Imam of the mosque Sheikh Haris welcomed the students and gave a brief introduction of the mosque and its activities.

During the visit, students learned about the importance of entering with respect, maintaining cleanliness, and showing good manners inside the prayer space. They explored key features such as the prayer hall, mihrab, minbar, and ablution area, and discussed how each part supports worship and community life.

Students performed two-rak'ah (unit) Tahiyatul Masjid prayer upon entering the mosque to greet and show respect for the House of Allah.

Students also had the opportunity to observe how the mosque operates as a centre of learning, worship, and togetherness. It was a valuable experience that deepened their understanding and appreciation of the role mosques play in the Muslim community.

At the end, the students were given a cup of  Zamzam water by the mosque caretaker.

The Year 4 homeroom teachers and the Islamic Studies faculty were proud of the students’ respectful behaviour and thoughtful questions throughout the visit.
